Kant University expels a student for organizing an anti-corruption event

Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (IKBFU) expelled law student and protester of the June 12 rally Oleg Alekseev for “illegal behavior.” RBC writes about this on July 11.

The order was signed by the director of the department of legal and personnel work of the IKBFU. I. Kanta and Deputy Rector for Security Anatoly Tsygankov. The document notes the student’s “disrespect” for the law and the court in public space, disregard for internal order at the university, and unresolved disciplinary action. Alekseev will appeal the order.

“The wording itself—“disrespect for the law and the court”—is simply absurd. The order does not say what exactly this disrespect was expressed in,” the publication quotes the student as saying.

During a personal conversation between Alekseev and the rector of the university’s legal and personnel department, Galina Kazakova, it turned out that the rector’s office did not like the post on the student’s VKontakte page about problems with coordinating the rally. The applicant tried to challenge the refusal to approve the location (the city administration proposed to move the event) in court, but this was unsuccessful. “Nothing, complete and arrogant ignorance,” - the university management did not like this commentary of the court decision. On the eve of the action, the dean of the university, together with a representative of law enforcement agencies, persistently advised the student to hold the action at the agreed location. And after the action and publications in the media about pressure from the university management, Alekseev was required to write explanatory notes and promised to assemble a disciplinary commission.
