Seven colony officers No. 1 in Elista were sentenced to the terms of imprisonment from one and a half to 11 years for torture by the prisoner Dmitry Batyrev, who died after beating.
The 11-year deadlines were received by the assistant to the head of the colony of Kazbek Israilov and the operative of Ceresne Nusunov. They were found guilty of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, which resulted in the death of the victim by negligence, and abuse of authority.
The doctor Konstantin Ubushaev, who was present at the beating of the prisoner and did not provide him with help, was sentenced to three years.
Former deputy chief of the colony Baatra Dorjiev received three years of imprisonment, employees of the colony security department, Alexander Shuvaev and Ilya Badma-Ubushaev-seven years and a year and a half, respectively, the former deputy head of the special purpose department of the FSIN Office for Kalmykia Yevgeny Molozaev-one year.
The prosecution demanded much longer for employees of the colony. Lawyer Andrei Sabinin, representing the interests of the sister of the deceased prisoner, promised to appeal the verdict.
“The verdict is surprising, because the prosecutor asked for much more severe deadlines for the defendants (70 years for all defendants). In fact, the judge reduced the sentence two to three times for some employees, ”said Andrei Sabinin.
