Iranian mathematician Mariam Mirzahani died. She was the first woman who received the Field Prize

In the United States, Iranian mathematician Mariam Mirzahani died, the only woman - the winner of the Field Prize, the most prestigious award in the field of mathematics.

Mirzahani was 40 years old. Four years ago, her breast cancer was diagnosed, Tehran Times reports .

In 2014, Mariam Mirzahani received a Fields award, which is called an analogue of Nobel in the field of mathematics (though the prize is awarded once every four years and only scientists no older than 40 years). She was awarded for “outstanding contribution to the dynamics and geometry of the Riman surfaces, as well as their spaces of modules,” writes N+1.

Mirzahani became the first woman and the first Iranian to receive a reward.
