EU imposed sanctions against 16 Syrian military and scientists due to chemical weapons

Foreign Ministers of 28 EU countries at a meeting of the EU Council in Brussels agreed on the introduction of personal sanctions against 16 Syrian citizens involved in the Himatams of the Bashar al -Assad regime. This was reported on the website of the EU Council.

Eight senior government troops and eight scientists who were developing chemical weapons will be added to the list of sanctions of representatives of the Syrian regime.

The defendants in the list are emphasized in the message, involved in the "development and use of chemical weapons of the civilian population."

On May 29, the EU for a year extended sanctions against Syria. At that time, the restrictions affected 255 individuals and 67 legal entities. Assad regime functioners banned entry into the European Union and froze accounts in European banks. In addition, the sanctions include an oil embargo, a ban on certain investments, freezing of accounts of the Syrian Central Bank in the European Union and restrictions on the supply of equipment and technologies to Syria, which can be used by the regime for repressions.
