State Duma deputy Anton Gentta filed applications with the Prosecutor General's Office and the Higher Qualification Board of Judges with a demand to check the judge of the Krasnodar Regional Court Elena Khakhaleva, who attracted attention with her daughter's expensive wedding.
“I reacted to the public indignation that arose in connection with publications and stories related to the wedding, where a judge of the Krasnodar Territory appears. I sent a corresponding request to the panel of judges and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation to also look at these facts, to ensure that the declaration corresponds to expenses,” he told TASS.
The parliamentarian noted that he is working with other deputies on legislative amendments that would oblige civil servants to indicate in declarations not only movable and immovable property, but also paid services.
Earlier on July 16, Vladimir Kislyak, deputy chairman of the council of judges of the Krasnodar court , told Kommersant that he had not yet checked the information about the wedding, since he had not received an official request.
Unofficially, the cost of the wedding of Khakhaleva’s daughter Sophia, which took place on June 10 in Krasnodar’s Galich Hall, was estimated at $2 million, while the judge’s declared income for 2016 was 2.6 million rubles. She married Vadim Badalov, an employee of the Investigative Committee. Singers Joseph Kobzon, Nikolai Baskov, Valery Meladze and Vera Brezhneva performed at the event, and the newlyweds were presented with a Bentley car .
Khakhaleva herself said that the celebration was paid for by the girl’s father, and she regarded numerous publications about the event as “overt pressure on the judge” and “revenge for not succumbing to blackmail and not allowing an illegal decision to be made.”
