The Moscow City Court upheld the sentence against Demushkin for posting a photo from the “Russian March”

The Moscow City Court approved the verdict of nationalist Dmitry Demushkin, who was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for reposting a photo from the “Russian March” on a social network, reports . RIA Novosti

Demushkin's defense, appealing the verdict of the Nagatinsky District Court handed down in April, demanded that the criminal case be dropped. The prosecutor's office requested 2.5 years of imprisonment. After the decision of the Moscow City Court, the verdict came into force.

The nationalist was found guilty under Article 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity). According to investigators, he published on his VKontakte page a photo from the agreed event, in which a banner with a slogan was visible.

Demushkin was detained in October 2016 and was under house arrest. According to his lawyer Mikhail Tikhonov, investigators summoned the nationalist’s 80-year-old grandmother for questioning.

Previously, he headed the organizations “Slavic Union”, “Slavic Power” and “Russians”, which are recognized as extremist and banned. He also participated in the creation of the Nationalist Party, which as of July 2017 is not registered, but is not prohibited either.

In 2014, Demushkin was sentenced to a fine of 200 thousand rubles under Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code (organization of an extremist community): the court considered that he did not stop the activities of the “Slavic Union”, but simply renamed the organization after its ban as “Slavic Power”. He was released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
