The mayor of Yekaterinburg, Yevgeny Roizman, takes off his candidacy from the elections of the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, since he could not collect enough signatures of deputies to pass the municipal filter. He stated this at a joint press conference with the founder of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky.

"The municipal filter is imperfect. I encounter this. When I went to collect signatures, there was no more mathematical number left to the right one," Roizman said. At the same time, the head of Yekaterinburg did not clarify how many signatures of deputies he had already collected. It is known that as of July 6, 39 municipal deputies of the necessary 126 were signed for the nomination of Roizman.

Roizman said that he would be with the Yabloko party, from which he was put forward to the governor’s elections, to decide whether to appeal to the Constitutional Court to challenge the institute of the municipal filter. “We will make a decision and voice it. But now applying to the Constitutional Court is the same as sitting once again to play with a ramp, it may be lucky. Everyone has such feelings,” the mayor noted.

On June 26, Roizman said that the authorities are trying to use the municipal filter to prevent it from elections. "On June 13-15, representatives of the regional administration traveled to all municipalities - the heads of all cities gathered all municipal deputies, and there was a massive notarial collection of their signatures. To be honest, it seems that they did not leave me the opportunity to collect the necessary 126 signatures. Moreover, there must be one more condition - they must be signed by deputies of rural settlements, but they certainly chose them. The authorities are very happy with themselves, ”said the mayor of Yekaterinburg.

On June 21, the Federal Bureau of the Yabloko party nominated Roizman as a candidate for governors . The nomination took place on the second attempt: the party was supposed to nominate Roizman on June 17 at the party’s regional conference. However, an hour before the conference, the head of the Sverdlovsk branch of the party, Yuri Pereverzev and nine more delegates announced the exit from the party in protest against the candidacy "imposed by him." After that, the conference was broken due to the lack of a quorum.

At the end of June, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova stated that the CEC has questions in the nature and order of Roizman’s nomination, and urged the “Yabloko” to contact the commission to “fix everything”. In response, on July 12, the party chairman Emilia Slabunova accused the CEC of unwillingness to let opponents to the elections .

On June 28, Vedomosti, citing sources close to the Kremlin, reported that the presidential administration decided to prevent competition in the elections of governors this fall. The Kremlin does not intend to allow "strong opponents" to the elections. Candidates who are able to compete with the current governors are already difficulties with overcoming the municipal filter and, most likely, will not be allowed to the elections, sources of the publication said.

The election of the governor of the Sverdlovsk region will be held on a single voting day on September 10. The current head of the region Evgeny Kuyvashev will take part in them.
