The court extended the arrest of the former head of the Gogol Center Malobrodsky despite the objections of the prosecutor's office

The Basmanny Court of Moscow extended the arrest of the former director of the Gogol Center and the former general producer of the Seventh Studio, Alexander Malobrodsky, until October 19, after the prosecutor’s office called his arrest illegal. this RAPSI reports from the courtroom.

During the meeting to extend the preventive measure, a representative of the prosecutor's office said that on June 21, Malobrodny was arrested illegally, since the case against him was only now opened.

Malobrodny’s lawyer, Ksenia Karpinskaya, said that the case of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code) was opened on July 18 at 10:30 am.

“Now the investigation is retroactively opening a criminal case. My client has not received any notice and has not been charged. All documents were prepared today. Malobrodsky must be released from the hall immediately,” she said .

According to lawyer Yulia Lyakhova, in the previous case there was only an episode related to the production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. “Today we learn that a different criminal case was opened today, although yesterday the court left for a decision,” TASS quotes the defender as saying.

According to investigators, in 2012, Malobrodsky entered into a conspiracy with the former general director and former chief accountant of the Seventh Studio, Yuri Itin and Nina Maslyaeva, planning to steal part of the funds allocated from the state budget for the development of art. The damage is estimated at 2.3 million rubles.

Malobrodsky worked at the Seventh Studio from 2011 to 2012, and at the Gogol Center from February 2013 to March 2015. At the end of May, in connection with the theft of 200 million in budget funds, security forces conducted searches in Serebrennikov’s apartment and the Gogol Center, which he runs. He is a witness in the case.
