The Hermitage will present a VR film about its history

From July 21, a film on the history of the state Hermitage, shot in the format of “virtual reality”, will show in a specially equipped VR cinema-cinema.

This was announced today, July 19, at a press conference, said the General Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, Interfax reports.

“Today we present an example of how the latest technologies are used to preserve and story about our traditions. This film was made under the full control of the Hermitage, without this there would be no film. The film will become part of what we are still creating: the spaces that we call the Hermitage forum. It includes the first floor of the main headquarters, Palace Square and a small sea, ”said Piotrovsky.

Filming of the 19-minute film "Hermitage. Virtual immersion in time and space ”, the basis of the scenario of which was the events of the history of the Hermitage from the time of Catherine the Great to the present day, took place on Palace Square, in the halls of the museum, the hanger of the garden and on the roof of the Winter Palace.

The filmmaker Konstantin Khabensky acted as a guide in the film. Piotrovsky himself took part in the filming. According to him, the film will have a continuation.

“We used Virtual Reality Technologies as a time machine. - explained the director of the film Mikhail Antykov. “We give the audience the opportunity to put on virtual reality glasses and be transferred in time: to become a visitor to the Hermitage in different eras and become a witness to the events that took place there.”

While there is a Russian -language version of the film with Russian and English subtitles, a full -fledged English voice acting is planned in the future.
