In No. 76 of July 17, the New Gazeta told the story of 18-year-old Ilya Gorbunov, a conscript who died in Naro-Fominsk near Moscow on February 6, 2017. According to Sister Gorbunov, she heard from officials different versions of what happened. At first-that four soldiers were traveling in a tank, "crashed somewhere" and died. Then - that Ilya was alone in the tank and died of pain shock. The third version was that the tank turned over, and Ilya died with a partner. Finally, the last-the tank fell from the bridge to the ravine, and death came due to drowning. This was confirmed by the forensic examination. True, the relatives of Ilya (the Foundation of the Mother's Rights provides free legal assistance to them) are not inclined to believe in its results. A couple of months before his death, Gorbunov asked his sister how to sell his share of the apartment. And after his death, colleagues hinted to relatives: violence could be applied to Ilya.

On the fact of the death of Ilya, a criminal case was instituted against the commander of the tank company Leontiev - for negligence (part 2 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The Ministry of Defense immediately responded to this publication. The Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Department said that the version of the death of the conscript has always been only one ("The mechanic-driver of the tank Ilya Gorbunov lost control when overcoming the bridge and allowed to overturn the combat vehicle"), and according to the results of the audit "the criminal case was refused."
