Leonid Velekhov : Hello, on the air of freedom is a radio that is not only audible, but also visible. In the studio Leonid Velekhov, and this is the new issue of the program "Cult of Personality", which you also watch on the TV channel "Present time". Our program, as you know, is not about tyrants, it is about real personalities, their fate, actions, their views on life.
Today I have a wonderful personality, Archpriest, writer Mikhail Ardov , but the program will not be about him, since we spoke about him in this studio almost two and a half years ago. This time we will talk about his brother - an unforgettable actor Alexei Batalov , who was gone a month ago.
Mikhail Ardov : I want to tell you such a joke, which, as it were, is connected with the name of your program. I say that in our country, since Stalin's times, little has changed. Then there was a cult of personality, and now the cult of cash.
Leonid Velekhov : Grandnose! Bravo! ( Laughter in the studio ) Good consumption for further conversation.
(Video about Alexei Batalov. Sailing text : when we ask ourselves as a question of how Russian culture managed to preserve and carry ourselves through the 70-year dominance of Soviet power and the Sharykovs, which were touched by this authority to tame the arts, we must first remember those houses and families where the values of the old culture were protected, as a relay, from generation to generation. The legendary “House on the Horde” is more precisely the apartment of the writer Viktor Ardov and the actress of Nina Olshevskaya in the house on Bolshaya Ordynka 17 is a classic example of a house in which Akhmatova, Pasternak, Zoshchenko, and such a family that gave Russia a wonderful actor Alexei Batalov and the remarkable memoirist Mikhail Ardov.
Alexey Vladimirovich Batalov, who was gone in June this year, seemed on the screen the embodiment of the human type called the Chekhov intellectual, even when he played absolutely Soviet young people or completely ordinary workers. And when he had played the heroes of Chekhov, Tolstoy, Bulgakov, here, even between the image and the performer, as the actors say, the needle could not be stuck ...
This acting manner, subtlety, culture of human feelings itself-everything went from there, from home, from parents, and, of course, from Anna Akhmatova, who spent more days a year in the house on Horde than in his native St. Petersburg, and with whom the Batalov-Ardov brothers, despite the age difference, was connected by friendship, and above all, of course, a sense of knightly in the queen Russian poetry.)
Studio
Leonid Velekhov : Mikhail Viktorovich, the story of your family is unique in all respects. This is the famous house - an apartment in Bolshaya Ordynka, 17. This is the family itself. Now this is already a whole family, filled with remarkable personalities, remarkable destinies, biographies associated with the history of Russian, Soviet culture. These are finally people who came to this house, as they say, to a light, just a genius, lighting of our Russia!
Mikhail Ardov : At least three Nobel laureates. ( Laughter in the studio ). (From ed. - Pasternak, Brodsky, Solzhenitsyn are meant).
Leonid Velekhov : Not bad. So, this, indeed, for which thread, do not pull your family and home story here, some unusually interesting narrative is unwound. But today we are talking about Alexei Vladimirovich Batalov, a completely amazing actor, a favorite of several generations of people. The kingdom is heavenly.
Mikhail Ardov : I pray now all the time about him.
Leonid Velekhov : The forty days have not even passed ... And, of course, our conversation for sure, due to what I said, will splash out, as they say, beyond this single, albeit wonderful biography.
I want to start first. You are brothers, but half, unified.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, this is called single -industrial. Now on the occasion of general wildness, this word, in general, is gone. Usually they write about us - summary.
Leonid Velekhov : Yes, these are single -industrial, when the mother is one at the brothers. And when the common father, then these are consumer.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, absolutely true.
Leonid Velekhov : The difference in the age of almost nine years ... How did relations develop in the family? Who was he for you - a role model or, conversely, the subject of jealousy, maybe?
Mikhail Ardov : Come on, I will tell you the very first two memories of him.
Leonid Velekhov : Come on!
Mikhail Ardov : Our mother is with us three (still my youngest, brother Boris) was in evacuation in the city of Bugulma. And there she organized the theater in which Alexei began his career. Now this theater is named Batalov.
Leonid Velekhov : Although, as he himself writes in memoirs, it would be more correct if he had the name of Nina Antonovna, your mother.
Mikhail Ardov : Of course. And in 1942 or in 1943, I don’t remember exactly exactly, my father, who worked in an army newspaper, received a vacation and came to us in Bugulma. And I remember such a scene: about the house where we had housing, a wooden house, a father with a TTI pistol shoots from TT on firewood, on the lady. And we are small, we run after each shot and look for traces of bullets in these firewood. This is the first memory. And the second is already in 1946, when our family shot a cottage in Valentinovka. And one of the nearest summer cottages was shot by Alexander Vertinsky with his wife and small daughters. And he sang for neighbors from time to time there. And Alyosha, he was seventeen years old, began to imitate him. He dressed up and sang, gestured, everything was very similar.
Leonid Velekhov : In general, a born artist.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. And I must say that my father, when his parents got married, he immediately fell in love with him very hotly.
Leonid Velekhov : This was very interested in me - how the relationship with my father developed.
Mikhail Ardov : And he carried it through his whole life. The only thing that caused his displeasure was that Alyosha studied poorly in the last grades of the school. He could not comprehend neither physics, nor mathematics, nor chemistry.
Leonid Velekhov : Do you remember how Viktor Efimovich Alexei said? "Your education is like laundry, lower." ( Laughter in the studio )
Mikhail Ardov : Yes! I must say that in our school - then I also studied at this school and graduated from it - there was a smart and very beautiful teacher of history, Evgenia Israelievna Kapitonova. Then she and her husband, a colonel of intelligent, were friends with my parents. They also lived on Horde. And when at some pedagogical council it was about how Batalov is studying poorly, she spoke and said: “So I warn you-our school will still be proud that Batalov studied here!” ( Laughter in the studio )
Leonid Velekhov : Oh, what a Cassandra!
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. And then, when he entered the Moscow Art Theater School, he became one of the best students. He received a named scholarship named after Moskvin. So everything was already fine there. But my father said that he was concerned since childhood, because he was afraid that such a typical actor would come out of him.
Leonid Velekhov : Actor actor, what is called.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, he will sit with drinking companions in the WTO restaurant ...
Leonid Velekhov : The actor's place is in the buffet!
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, yes. And he will say this: "I go out onto the stage. The public: Ryaya!" ( Laughter in the studio ) But nothing of the kind happened. He was always quite far from bohemia. And in terms of alcohol, it is also extremely restrained.
Leonid Velekhov : And this is the uniqueness of his individuality - in the combination of modesty, intelligence and acting charm, acting gift of reincarnation.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, yes, yes.
Leonid Velekhov : Tell me honestly, who loves the three of you most of all?
Mikhail Ardov : I think that in the end of the youngest, Borya. Because he had some difficulties in life all the time, he got divorced, married ...
Leonid Velekhov : died early.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. Alexey had already had his own housing for a long time. And when our father died, I soon married. And my wife had a one -room apartment, I moved there. And my mother began to live with Borea and his changing families. ( Laughter in the studio )
Leonid Velekhov : Mom was wonderful too.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes! She was a completely marvelous person.
Leonid Velekhov : Many people from the theater world are always so well remembered.
Mikhail Ardov : She never talked about anyone, never at all fateful with anyone. And she always admired the beauty of some people.
Leonid Velekhov : She herself was very beautiful. A very interesting woman was.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. Borea and I always asked her: "Mom, is it so beautiful?" She said: "Beautiful."
Leonid Velekhov : And you have two what handsome people came out!
Mikhail Ardov : Well, nevertheless, we did not participate in this competition.
Leonid Velekhov : It was impossible for you not to be handsome, because your father was a handsome man, Victor Efimovich, a wonderful feuilletonist, satirist, comedian.
Mikhail Ardov : They were both very beautiful.
Leonid Velekhov : I always tell you how I read the feuilleton books in my childhood. I am laughing to tears when I read them even for the twenty -fifth time. A man was a very witty, although, probably, with some kind of drama of unrealization after all, right?
Mikhail Ardov : Of course! He had wonderful abilities. He was also very educated. And he, of course, could have performed not only with stories and feuilletons. But - alas!
Leonid Velekhov : Alas and ah!
Mikhail Ardov : And to write some socialist-realistic novels, of course, he could not and did not want to ...
Leonid Velekhov : And how Pasternak told him, after reading his book, remember? "Remember" - I ask you! What is the impudence! ( Laughter in the studio )
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. “I really liked it,” he said. “It seems to me that you could have imposed yourself to a much greater extent.”
Leonid Velekhov : It is perfectly said. And as always, Pasternak has absolutely to the point! There is no superfluous words. Yes, but, by the way, Alexei Vladimirovich had his blood father - also a figure, a person close to Stanislavsky ...
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, the favorite hem of Stanislavsky. He and the actor was pretty good.
Leonid Velekhov : He was a fairly influential figure in the torn offers of the Moscow Art Theater, even partially appears in the Bulgakov Theater Roman. Did he appear in your house?
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, yes, yes!
Leonid Velekhov : That is, all this was normally perceived, right?
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, he came. And he really loved our younger brother Borya. Borya was still small, they were very friends. Vladimir Petrovich put him on his shoulders, and he sorted his hairs on his bald head and still sang: "In the blue and distant ocean, // somewhere near the Fiery Earth." ( Laughter in the studio ) I'm just like now I remember.
Leonid Velekhov : Is your house really like this, just an idyllic family world?
Mikhail Ardov : More or less-yes.
Leonid Velekhov : Just some kind of Christmas fairy tale Dickens.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes.
Leonid Velekhov : Grandnose! Since nowhere in the memoirs the name of Vladimir Petrovich does not pass, I even began to assume that there was some kind of tension, some relations were bad.
Mikhail Ardov : No, no, no.
Leonid Velekhov : And, of course, we cannot but remember that Alexei Vladimirovich had an uncle, by the way, as they say, the superstar of the Soviet silent cinema - Nikolai Batalov.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. Unfortunately, he died early from consumption.
Leonid Velekhov : Yes, he died early, but he managed to play in Aelita, he managed to play Gorky and Putevka to life in his mother. Such, in the current language, expressing themselves, blockbusters. And indeed, after all, the actor was very good.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, very!
Leonid Velekhov : Very charming, with outstanding organic.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, the smile was completely dazzling.
Leonid Velekhov : And over Alexei Vladimirovich, it seems to me that in his youth the shadow of Nikolai Petrovich Batalov, as they say, hung. It is no coincidence that Donskoy gave him Pavel Vlasov to play in "Mother" - the role of Nikolai Batalov?
Mikhail Ardov : Of course.
Leonid Velekhov : But Alexei Batalov was completely different.
Mikhail Ardov : Of course! He was very similar to the brother of our mother ...
Leonid Velekhov : And there, in general, I know, a noble family - Ponomsky, by the way, no less!
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. I remember recently I met with a Polish ambassador at a party to Echo of Moscow. And we talked, I say: "And my great -grandmother has a surname - Ponatovskaya." He said: "So you have royal blood." ( Laughter in the studio )
Leonid Velekhov : He took off his hat, bowed his knee?
Mikhail Ardov : No, there were no hats.
Leonid Velekhov : That's why he did not take off. But grandmother and grandfather have a sad fate. Grandfather disappeared in the Gulag ...
Mikhail Ardov : He did not disappear in the Gulag.
Leonid Velekhov : He did not even live to the Gulag.
Mikhail Ardov : He did not reach him, he died in the Vladimir Cheka ... He was very hot, a little, shouted: "To the dogs!" And he yelled to the investigator: "To the dogs!" Then the investigator jumped up, hit him. He fell. And he already had a consumption. And he began to trample him with his feet. And after that he died in a prison hospital.
Leonid Velekhov : Oh, you, Lord!
Mikhail Ardov : And my grandmother was ... her father, when he married my mother, told my grandmother: "You need to leave the city of Vladimir, here everyone knows you." And she headed no less than the provincial association of the Socialist Revolutionaries. And all this was remembered! Once I asked my mother: "Mom, who was your godfather?" She says: "Frunze." ( Laughter in the studio ).
Leonid Velekhov : However! Mikhail Vasilievich!
Mikhail Ardov : It turns out that Frunze was at first a Socialist -Revolutionary, and then became a Bolshevik.
Leonid Velekhov : I did not remember that he was a Socialist -Revolutionary.
Mikhail Ardov : And when his daughter was born with her grandmother, he was a godfather.
Leonid Velekhov : Wow, you! Tell me, returning to Alexei Vladimirovich, who was the first to understand that this is an extraordinary, not an ordinary artist? What will the artist be is clear, but what is it really like such a rare talent?
Mikhail Ardov : The fact is that this was clear to everyone, especially since he was still versatile. For example, he wrote poetry.
Leonid Velekhov : And good verses! I read them. Akhmatov’s poems.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. I remember how Akhmatova quoted his two lines: "The sea forever butt the rocks, // Blue Wave with a white forehead ..." That's how he wrote!
Leonid Velekhov : Gorgeous!
Mikhail Ardov : And then he also painted oil, wrote an Akhmatov portrait that adorned our main room. He wrote children's fairy tales, articles, scripts ... Sometimes they ask me what my favorite film in which he plays. And I say - "Lady with a dog." In Italy, Fellini invited him to a restaurant. And Alyosha at the table told him what honor it is for him. To which Fellini replied: "If I had not seen you played in the film" Lady with a Dog ", I would not invite you." ( Laughter in the studio )
Leonid Velekhov : Wow, you! The assessment is something worth it! And my favorite film is "Three Fat Men." Tibul contacted him forever.
Mikhail Ardov : By the way, preparing the script, we turned to Olesha’s widow, and she gave us his sketches for the staging of the “three fat people”. From there, we took characters who are not in the story, for example, Captain Bonavventure. We were so seriously doing this.
Leonid Velekhov : Great! Now in this part of our conversation I would like to appear on the stage Anna Andreevna Akhmatova, with the influence of which both your fate and the fate of Alexei Vladimirovich are very tight and deeply connected. After all, she played a big role in the fate of Alexei Vladimirovich?
Mikhail Ardov : Huge! But you need to start with how Akhmatova appeared ... My parents bought an apartment in a cooperative house in Nashchokinsky Lane. Now these bastards were demolished, although Mandelstam lived there, Bulgakov lived there. It would be possible to save. Renovators ... My parents received an apartment on the ground floor of the entrance, where Mandelstam lived on the fifth floor. And they have formed a relationship. Emma Grigoryevna Gershtein recalled that when Mandelstam rose with his guest to his place, he certainly called into our door. My mother opened, and he said to his guest: "A beautiful woman lives here." ( Laughter in the studio ). And went upstairs.
Leonid Velekhov : What was the direct person.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, yes, absolutely. So this is visible. And Akhmatova usually came to him and there I spent the night there. And once she came with her son, Lev Nikolayevich. Well, he was still young, Leva. And there were no places there. And then Mandelstam asked my parents to shelter Lev. And then Akhmatova and Left came to us to dinner, and for some time Mandelstam did not have a place, and then they sent Akhmatov to my parents. So everything started. But at first, the parents simply dyed from respectfulness.
Leonid Velekhov : I think!
Mikhail Ardov : But my father, a witty man, lively, and he could not exist. Therefore, on the second or third day, my parents went somewhere, and Akhmatova said: "And I will be at home. I want to work." To which the father, squinting with fear, said: “The rhyme dictionary is on this shelf” ( laughter in the studio ). And Akhmatova burst out laughing loudly.
Here the ice melted, and since then they joked continuously ...
Leonid Velekhov : Akhmatova also had a grandiose sense of humor ...
Mikhail Ardov : Yes! For example, his father liked to go shopping on Pyatnitskaya. Everyone knew him there. And for some reason, he often bought reduced crushed candy, the so-called pillows. He brought them once and said: "Here are the sweets, again crushed." To what Akhmatova said: "They are crushed at least with you?" ( Laughter in the studio )
Leonid Velekhov : Yes, I feel, there was a contest of Ovumtsev.
Mikhail Ardov : Yes, yes, yes. At the same time, he called it: "The mother -in -law of the Honoris Kauza." Why? I later found in Ilf in notebooks that when my parents still lived in Lavrushinsky Lane ...
Leonid Velekhov : In the famous "House of Massolith", a writer ...
Mikhail Ardov : Yes. Ilf lived in the same house, and he once came to us, found Akhmatov, with whom he was not familiar, and thought that it was daddy mother -in -law. She could really be the mother of my mother by age. He wrote: "I thought: what a serious mother -in -law has a serious one. And it turned out to be Akhmatova." "Mother -in -law Honoris Kauz" comes from here.
Leonid Velekhov : You like to say that Anna Andreevna lived in Ordynka almost more time than in Leningrad.
Leonid Velekhov : Yes! Awesome!
( Laughter in the studio )
Leonid Velekhov : Great!
I love him very much.
These names were given to you!
( Laughter in the studio ).
Mikhail Ardov : No!
( Laughter in the studio ).
( Laughter in the studio ).
Grand!
Construction. ( Laughter in the studio )
Why?
Mikhail Ardov : No.
But this is not at all like that. This also needs to be kept in mind.
Leonid Velekhov : Thank you!
