In Chita, an activist was denied compensation for forced treatment

On July 24, the Central District Court of Chita refused to compensate for moral damages to civil activist Nikolai Likhanov, who was forcibly placed in a psychiatric hospital. About this writes the publication "Kommersant". In court, the prosecutor's office pointed out that the legislation does not provide for compensation for hospitalization without grounds.

According to the publication, Likhanov ended up in a psychiatric hospital after statements from employees of the local administration, where he often came to file a complaint. Statements of officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs handed over to a psychiatric hospital. Likhanov was detained and taken to the hospital. Hospital doctors decided that Likhanov "may be a danger to himself and others." On this basis, the district court sent him to a hospital, where the activist spent 23 days, until the Trans-Baikal Regional Court overturned the decision of the lower court.

The activist is 44 years old, he is a boxing coach. In 2010, the premises of the Spartak children's sports club, where Likhanov worked, were handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the club closed. From that moment on, the coach and his brother began to hold actions, including against the abolition of direct elections of the mayor of Chita and investigated the corruption scheme of the energy companies of IDGC of Siberia and PJSC TGK-14.

The activist's lawyer, Roman Sukachev, intends to go to the Constitutional Court to ask to remove a gap in the legislation that does not compensate for damages for hospitalization without reason.

In June of this year, 82-year-old Olga Churikova spent three days in a psychiatric hospital because, during a rude detention, she told the police: “Give me kerosene and I will commit suicide, just not to endure such treatment.”

Also not so long ago, on June 14, Alexey Moroshkin left the psychiatric hospital in Chelyabinsk. He spent more than a year and a half there after he was accused of calling for separatism for posting on VKontakte about the need to create the Ural People's Republic.
