The official representative of the French Foreign Affairs Agnes Romate condemned the bill on the new US sanctions against Russia, adopted on the eve of the American House of Representatives. It is reported by RFI.
“This bill, if it is adopted, will allow penalties to European companies and European individuals,” the official said. “Thus, the extra -territorial application of the law looks unlawful from the point of view of international law.”
Earlier, the European Commission expressed the "concern for the possible influence of the" American bill "on the EU Energy Independence," and also stated that it could lead to "negative political consequences." European officials emphasized that the sanctions policy should be consistent with all G7 participants.
As noted, the bill adopted by the House of Representatives is jealous of sanctions European companies that cooperate with enterprises of the Russian energy sector. In particular, the partners of the Northern Stream -2 project fall under the blow: French Engie, German Uniper and Wintershall, Austrian OMV and British -Niderland Shell.
It is also indicated that so far there was a consensus between Washington and Brussels that sanctions against Moscow should not concern gas supplies to Europe.
For new sanctions against Russia, as well as Iran and DPRK, 419 congressmen voted , only three against. Now the bill must be adopted by the Senate, and then - signed by President Donald Trump. Earlier, the White House has already stated that in principle they approve of the document.
About half of the bill is devoted to anti -Russian sanctions. It is noted that they are introduced "in response to a crisis in eastern Ukraine, cyber attacks, as well as human rights violations in Russia."
The same document provides for the consolidation of the previous orders of the US administration at the legislative level and obliges the president of the country to coordinate any mitigation of sanctions with Congress.
