President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko deprived the ex-president of Georgia and the former governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship. This was written on his FB page by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the "Radical Party" Igor Mosiychuk, referring to his sources.

The State Migration Service of Ukraine (HMS) confirmed the information. The department clarified that Poroshenko’s decree was issued on the basis of paragraph 2 of Article 19 of the Law of Ukraine on Citizenship, which provides for deprivation of citizenship, if it is obtained "due to deception, a conscious representation of untruthful information or false documents."

According to TSN with reference to the unnamed "informed sources", in the questionnaire of the citizenship applicant Saakashvili said that he was not under investigation in Ukraine or abroad, while in reality he was arrested in absentia at that time.

According to the television channel, a request for citizenship Saakashvili was submitted to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, deputy chairman of the Radical Party Andrei Lozova. The supervisory authority appealed to the migration service on this occasion, and that - to the Commission on Citizenship under the President of Ukraine, which recommended Poroshenko to make the current decision.

However, later, the press secretary of the HMS, Sergei Gunko, told UNIAN that he did not confirm the deprivation of Saakashvili and that his department did not provide such media reports.

In the founded Saakashvili movement of new forces, the information also unofficially refuted the information.

The ex-president of Georgia himself has not yet commented on the news. Earlier, he repeatedly announced the intention of Poroshenko to deprive him of citizenship.

In 2015, Saakashvili left Georgian citizenship . Thus, after the loss of citizenship of Ukraine, he became Apatride.

Now, according to Article 10 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the ex-president of Georgia can be issued to his homeland to prosecute. On July 19, the Minister of Justice of Georgia Teya Tsulukuani said that Georgian law enforcement officers had already asked Kiev to give Saakashvili twice and received a refusal both times.

In May, one of the supporters of Saakashvili, deputy of the Odessa City Council, Sasha Borovik, lost the Ukrainian passport. The reason was named the Boorovik of Germany’s citizenship: Ukrainian legislation obliges the persons who have received the country's passport for three years to abandon foreign citizenship.

Saakashvili received a Ukrainian passport on May 29, 2015, and the next day he was appointed governor of the Odessa region. On November 7, 2016, he resigned from this post , accusing Poroshenko of the support of two Odessa corruption clans.
