Medical history
In 2017, photo projects on colta.ru are divided into several blocks. The third of them, named “graduates”, presents the diploma and final work of students graduating from educational programs related to the study of a photographic medium.
We close this block by the publication of the project of a graduate of the Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia named after Rodchenko Ivan Petrokovich (Vlaid Efimov workshop) “The History of the disease”.

“The history of the disease” is, first of all, a book: both in the form in which this work is exhibited, and in the structure in which the visual narrative is intertwined with scraps of the text.
In its center is the story of a hypochondriac, slowly dying either from imaginary, or from a real disease that destroys his body and mind.
But the main figure of the narrative here is not an unhappy patient or his mysterious infection, but endless ambivalence and the inability to determine the boundaries of reality and fiction, body and mind, “outside” and “inside”, being and non -being.
Despite the fact that work on the book was conducted for more than a year, it has not a single pre -planned, staged frame; The task was to recontextualization of precisely "diary" personnel shot in ordinary life.
In the process of personnel and quotes from books, losing contact with their initial meanings, they gained new connections among themselves, to then be collected together around the reasoning of the nature of fear of the body, forming a completely fictitious “history of the disease”, which, turning into a mutant, becomes something more than the sum of its parts.
