Then the head of the Odessa regional administration with extended powers, that is, the opportunity to gain a state, without asking anyone. Thinking, the ex-president agreed, accepting Ukrainian citizenship and cutting off his way to his homeland.

Mikhail Nikolozovich believed that he was doing the right thing, starting a new political career. But he miscalculated. And the point here is not only in corruption, with which he promised to end in a short time, not realizing that this simply could not be able to an ordinary governor in a post -Soviet country. He made a serious psychological mistake associated with a reassessment of his own capabilities. It has long been subordinate to anyone, since I overthrew his political mentor Shevardnadze, Saakashvili forgot that any, including the most democratic state, is primarily hierarchically. And if rumors are true that the new regional leader was going to use Odessa as a springboard to take off the presidential chair, then the conflict with a former classmate was predetermined.

He did not fit into the Ukrainian elite - and could not fit. It was too exotic even for post -revolutionary Ukraine. Too annoyed his increased emotionality, which is so easy to always confuse with praise and indefatigable craving for self -promotion. He worked too actively on the camera, abrupt fences, behind which there were ownership of local thieves or those whom he declared thieves. Too easily and willingly pushed with opponents the powerful and close to the first person, who, for complete happiness in the country, forcibly drawn into the war, lacked only these everyday scandalous showdowns.

For some time Petro Poroshenko was waiting. Then he made a choice. And the local boss realized that no one else supports him on Bankova, and did not become a governor named Mikhail Saakashvili in the Odessa region.

Actually, the problem of corruption in through the corrupt elites is solved in different ways. Against himself and the system that he built for decades. Moreover, I repeat, in a country forcibly drawn into a war, which daily takes away the life of compatriots and budget money, and if the West pays for urgent state accounts, then there are oligarch brothers at hand. Sometimes ready to support almost entire armies on their own funds. It is theoretically possible to destroy this system. However, in practice, such a struggle against corruption is hardly any of the huge people will make and enrich.

All of the above does not mean that you should not fight with decomposition in elites. And even more so does not mean that Mikhail Saakashvili should have deprived Ukrainian citizenship.
