US President Donald Trump is going to sign a law providing for the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the representative of the White House Sarah Sanders, reports Reuters.
"He (Trump. - Ed.) Related to the final version and, since his comments were taken into account, approves the bill and intends to sign it," Sanders said. She did not mention the response measures of Russia.
The document entered the White House on Friday. TrapeMP has the right to reject the law, but in this situation, Congress can easily overcome the presidential veto. The bill on new sanctions against Russia, as well as Iran and the DPRK, was adopted in the House of Representatives 419 votes against three , and in the Senate - 98 against two .
After voting in the Senate, Russia announced return measures . On August 1, the use of the US Embassy in the village of Serebryany Bor in the west of Moscow, as well as warehouses on Road Street, has been suspended. In addition, Washington was required by September 1 to reduce the number of diplomats and technical employees at the embassy, as well as the Consulate Generals in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok to 455 people - this is how many employees are now working in Russian diplomatic mission in the United States. Thus, according to Kommersant, more than 700 American diplomats should leave Russia.
“Recent events indicate that Russophobia and a course to open confrontation with our country were entrenched in the known circles of the United States,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. “Hiding behind its“ exclusivity ”, the United States arrogantly ignore the positions and interests of other states.”
The new law introduces additional restrictive measures against Russia, Iran and the DPRK. About half the document is devoted to anti -Russian sanctions. It is noted that they are introduced "in response to a crisis in eastern Ukraine, cyber attacks, as well as human rights violations in Russia."
The document tightens restrictions on the transfer of American technologies for the exploration and production of Russian oil in deep water, the Arctic shelf and in shale formations. Until now, such sanctions have been valid only against the Gazprom, Gazpromneft, Surgutneftegaz, Rosneft and Lukoil projects. Now they are extended to all projects in which one of the named companies owns a “significant uncontrolled share” - 33 percent or more. In addition, transactions with the participation of Russian military and special structures, as well as transactions in the field of pipeline export of hydrocarbons are limited.
Along with this, it is forbidden to participate in privatization transactions with Russian state property, if they assume an investment volume of more than $ 10 million a year and contribute to the illegal enrichment of officials, their relatives and close associates.
Finally, sanctions against Russian financial institutions and their employees are imposed, who provide assistance to the Syrian dictator Bashar Assad in the development or receipt of weapons, in particular rocket and weapons of mass destruction.
The same document provides for the consolidation of the previous orders of the US administration at the legislative level and obliges the president of the country to coordinate any mitigation of sanctions with Congress.
