Tamara Lyalenkova : On the air "Born after the USSR", a program about what traditions youth inherit from the past and what awaits us in the future. Tamara Lyalenkova Svyatoslav Alice.
Svyatoslav Alice : You can see and listen to the discussion on the Radio Liberty website and on the Current Medical channel. Today we will talk about how young people spend money - both their own and parental. Advertising, friends' advice or own pragmatism has influence on their decisions.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Let's start with the main question - how young people are built by their financial strategies, deprived of the experience of ascetic Soviet times, growing in the era of well -fed consumerism. In the Moscow Studio-the dean of the faculty of psychology of the Institute of Public Sciences of the RANEPA Vladimir Spiridonov and the account-director of the Internet agency "Textster" Julia Blynskaya .
Vladimir, probably there were many different studies. This is a new story related to the master's program at your university. Is this called? ..
Vladimir Spiridonov : The behavioral economy.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Please tell us.
Vladimir Spiridonov : This is such a very peculiar area between economics and cognitive psychology. Accordingly, this is such an applied area that is trying to understand how people make a decision. For economists, of course, economic solutions are important, first of all, and for psychologists not only economic ones. But in any case, in fact, what factors affect how you choose a life partner, a product in a store, a profession, a place of study, and so on, and so on, and so on. This is such a wide area that is trying to figure out what our contemporaries, compatriots pay attention to, of course, when they are in a situation of choice.
Tamara Lyalenkova : It seems to me that the advertisers probably thought about this in due time?
Svyatoslav Alice : Yes! Julia, I know that you are working in advertising and, above all, with a young audience. It has become more difficult or easier to lure young people in our time than their parents?
Julia Blynskaya : To eliminate the current generation is not to say what is more difficult. In my opinion, on the contrary, current marketers are much easier now. I will explain why. Now, if we are telling the young generation, it is all online. And online is easy to observe, collect data, analyze.
Svyatoslav Alice : In fact, the Internet made young people rather defenseless against marketers, increasing suggestibility?
Julia Blynskaya : Not to say that defenseless. In principle, in any case, in our opinion, according to our observations, now our brain is filtering aggressive advertising. Therefore, advertising is now gone more in the native, or in a more confidential plan and format is presented with content.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Vladimir, a new situation related to the Internet, changed some features of behavior (we are talking about young people)? Or we cannot compare, because previous generations lived without a large consumer choice that the Internet provides?
Vladimir Spiridonov : The consequences of such total Internetization are both positive and negative. And, generally speaking, the influence on the cognitive sphere is very exaggerated. There are not very many significant global, fatal changes. The main nuisance is that if our generation is more likely to get information from different sources, even bypassing the Internet, but also on the Internet, too, but such a ridiculous result that it comes to the mind of an American student when they ask a difficult question? Well, Google, of course. Accordingly, no ways of working with information, its cataloging, collecting, hierarching. There are big problems with this. In this regard, there is a clear loss in this. But, in fact, I would not have called any significant ones. In this regard, rather, it really is possible to ask or learn something more precisely about people, and on the other hand, of course, the audience learned to largely work with information, to seal it, to choose something, to discard something. Although problems with critical thinking were and it are.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Do you think people rationally or emotionally approach purchases on the Internet? What are you counting on?
Julia Blynskaya : In fact, in my opinion, in principle, in principle, it seems to me, this trend is still young people more rational. This is not to say that they are impulsive. Why? Because, in fact, you just need to imagine, realize, think and understand when they were born, in what conditions they were formed. It is clear that they grew up and formed during a huge choice. Moreover, now they already know how to choose. They have quite high needs. They want cheaper things. They want to be unique and so on.
Svyatoslav Alice : Vladimir Feliksovich, we learned that the last decade we have been living in the era of consumption. This only intensifies and intensifies over time. It seems to you that the modern younger generation has the opportunity to somehow survive the era of consumption, to reach something new? Or is it a final point for them, and we will only strengthen this consumer culture?
Vladimir Spiridonov : What will happen to our country, I can only guess. You can see what happened to the West over the past 50 years, when this consumer culture has occurred. Nothing terrible happened. The consumption society arose and began to somehow develop. Things that lie across consumption related to some limit values there, with the occupation of some eternal matters, the same science or some volunteerism in the hospices and so on, have not disappeared anywhere. In this regard, I would not expect any significant cataclysms. Society should get used to the fact that it lives in conditions of not hunger. There is everything on the market, you just need to look.
Tamara Lyalenkova : But there is still a question of money. By the way, they must be finances that can be used in this way. It seems to me that an interesting point is that there is an opportunity to look for some more advantageous options, there are still financial instruments that you can use-discounts and all that. This applies to cafes, and tickets, and services. They are just very actively doing this.
We have the opportunity to see a small focus group. Faculty of Psychology of the RANEPA. The guys are talking about how they can treat money with care.
- Given the fact that I have a limited amount of money, I have to think about what to spend on, what I need and leave a certain amount for unforeseen expenses.
“I will not say that I am a very lean person.” Most often, in my experience it turns out that the first couple of weeks I can afford to buy something without thinking about money, and the last couple of weeks you understand exactly that you have this left, and you need to survive it. I tried to use some applications. They helped literally in order to understand that you were very, very little left, and you need to meet this for a certain amount of time.
- If I have some amount, then I know in advance what I will have to spend money on (for payment of the phone, to pay for travel, etc.). I know in advance that I can’t dispose of this amount as I want. Therefore, I usually spend it right away. But I usually dispose of all the other money as I have to. I buy what I like.
- As for my personal expenses, I consider myself a rather lean person. Because I always expect what I need to spend money on. And I am pretty sorry to part with them. But when I am in the company of some close people in the company, then, yes, it’s already difficult for me to keep money money. I tried to use applications exclusively to accumulate. Because so I keep an account with money in my head or on a piece of paper.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Is this such the right picture? She looks like a trend?
Vladimir Spiridonov : In words - this is the trend. What actually, we can only guess. It is clear that when psychologists require a conversation about how people behave in the market in a broad sense, we are forced to seriously go and describe human behavior. What people say about themselves what they really do - sometimes these are two big differences. Therefore, God forbid that everything is as blessed as we have heard. Situations when people behave economically irrationally is known by millions. They can be observed almost every day.
Tamara Lyalenkova : After all, there is such an idea that losses are more emotionally experienced than acquisitions, even if the acquisition is larger. But even a slight loss causes a person a lot of regrets, emotions.
Vladimir Spiridonov : Yes. This is one of the most amazing results of the behavioral economy over the past 30 years. For some reason, we experience losses much more painfully than acquisitions.
Svyatoslav Alice : Julia, it seems to you, what is the most unexpected of what clings to the young audience?
Julia Blynskaya : In advertising?
Svyatoslav Alice : Yes, in advertising? There is something unexpected for you that you don’t understand why it works, but it works.
Julia Blynskaya : Perhaps not, probably. I just would like to indicate the trend that is now. This is how the video works. In particular, the YouTube channel has become a platform for any categories of goods, a platform for choice. There, young people make a choice, they evaluate there, there they compare and so on. There they listen to the opinion of some bloggers. This is the main such trend that has been prevailing recently. And so that something especially surprises? Perhaps not. Everything is very clear. It is clear that large texts or some blurry advertising no longer works. It is necessary to briefly about the main, modern, bright and, in general, trade. Excess advertising is already very outraged. Now there are a lot of technologies that allow you to target advertising.
Svyatoslav Alice : When a person recommends a certain product or a blogger’s service, the audience of this blogger still makes a choice consciously based on the quality of the goods, simply learning about it from a blogger, or many some impulsive purchases?
Julia Blynskaya : Under the influence. I understand the question. Definitely under influence. Naturally, we also use these mechanics by ordering advertising from bloggers. But there is simply such a thing as a "leader of opinions." There are bloggers everywhere. Just visual content is now more effective.
Tamara Lyalenkova : And this can give rise to negative acceptance, that they offer you something all the time?
Vladimir Spiridonov : It is clear that it is so - it is annoying and sick. But at the same time, very strong psychological defenses arise very quickly. Let's say banner blindness is such a standard reaction of a modern person who does not see banners on the site. This is not a metaphor. The psychological forms of protection are wonderful. Banners go as a form of advertising. People simply do not see them. I think that with all other designs the struggle goes exactly the same.
Julia Blynskaya : Our agency has its own blog. Naturally, we also lead them for our customers. And the audience, that is, the core of a loyal audience that already knows, reads you, you explain something intelligibly without advertising ... And when you still try to insert advertising in the text, the audience calculates this instantly and either unsubscribes or angry letters begin.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Maybe there are some new psychological relations between a person who thus advertises something and offers? In general, maybe this is a fundamentally different relationship that was not before, between anonymous trust in such?
Vladimir Spiridonov : Trust cannot be anonymous. As soon as trust arises, you trust.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Well, to a certain image that exists on the Internet. A blogger is an image. Of course, we can believe that this is a specific person, but, nevertheless, this is his role, mission.
Vladimir Spiridonov : But you endow it with some psychological features. In this regard, you can trust not only people, but groups or social institutions, but still you must somehow face them, somehow represent them. I do not see significant differences here with the pre -Internet era. The mechanisms are the same.
Svyatoslav Alice : Vladimir Feliksovich, you say that you do not see the differences in this regard. Do you notice young people in some key difference in consumer thinking that their parents, grandparents do not have?
Vladimir Spiridonov : Actually, we said a lot about technical differences. The younger generation uses technologies much tougher, much more accurately, with fewer errors, more consistent. They are not afraid to go along this path several times, checking their guesses, elections, elections and so on. From the point of view of some more global things, it is not very visible. Say, behavioral economists terribly love to describe such a thing called "mental accounting." As any organization leads its accounting, each of us conducts some of its calculation of money, bonuses, services, and so on. It turns out that a huge number of economic indicators are violated in mental accounting. For example, you divide money from expenses, say, for food, for rest, for the education of children. And in an amazing way, although everywhere there are the same rubles or dollars, the money does not flow from the account to the account. Somehow, these rubles per one, and these rubles on the other. Amazing! It is clear that from the point of view of direct money or numbers, this is one and the same, but for some reason-no. Or, say, the money received from the parents, or the money that is earned themselves, these are two different sets of money. They are spent in different ways, and this younger generation and so on are different about them. There is some kind of amazing psychological truth that distinguishes us from rational agents running around the market.
Tamara Lyalenkova : We have a focus group of psychologists of the RANEPA. They say how they spend their earned money and parent.
- When I make money myself, I can spend it very quickly, because, basically, I earn more than I get from my parents. I can make rather rash purchases, because I know that they will give me again, if I ask. But, accordingly, they will give me a limited amount.
- Indeed, it is very difficult for yourself when you are constantly given money, to appreciate it. The value for money begins to manifest itself when you begin to earn them yourself. In fact, I begin to work precisely because to learn how to value the money that my parents go with great difficulty.
- It was always a question not of whose money I will spend more, but what I need, whether I have any unplanned expenses during this period of time.
- It seems to me that there is still a question in the most accessibility of money. If someone can give money once a week or once a month. A person can spend them reasonably, this is approximately the same amount, then it differs little from the money earned, which can appear with approximately the same regularity.
Tamara Lyalenkova : Julia, what is easier to go as a sentence on the Internet - useful or useless things?
Julia Blynskaya : Definitely useful.
Tamara Lyalenkova : We mean the youth audience.
Julia Blynskaya : Yes. Therefore, I say that now the tendency is such that you need to give something useful first, some kind of information, some kind of content, and only then can you hope that you will get something from you. Moreover, we understand that this huge choice, in which current youth grew and formed, it just led to the tendency that it was not we choose them, they choose it. And they have quite high requirements for what they choose. In my opinion, this is also reflected in purchasing power. Still, at first something useful. Naturally, they expect them to be given. They are already accustomed to this to some extent. Because they are given first free "buns".
Svyatoslav Alice : It turns out that the brands will have to share more and more.
Julia Blynskaya : Yes, everything is right. In principle, this trend is already there. Even what we are doing, and we are engaged in integrated Internet marketing, in particular, content marketing, it is built on confidence content when you create it. The brands are already giving. They make a blog, they create materials. Creating materials is difficult, expensive, it is laborious. They lead social networks. There are now the concentration of young people in social networks. The brands are already giving. And this trend will develop.
Svyatoslav Alice : Vladimir Feliksovich, there is such a constant bait of people. People who have loyalty to the brand have easier to manipulate?
Vladimir Spiridonov : Brends, do you mean?
Svyatoslav Alice : Yes, brands.
Vladimir Spiridonov : Well, to some extent - yes. I would not overestimate the depth of loyalty, but, nevertheless, of course, yes, especially if the brand manages to build a loyal audience on several generations. In any case, I would not overestimate.
Svyatoslav Alice : I know that recently, young people have been spending more and more money not on goods, but on virtual services, that is, on purchases inside the games, for paying for the services of some sites. How much does this change the rules of the game? When can you make money no longer on goods, but, in fact, on non -existent things?
Julia Blynskaya : And the rules of the game, what are they changing?
Svyatoslav Alice : in marketing, in consumer behavior.
Julia Blynskaya : I see. In fact, marketerists remains to adapt. In what regard? And this is a fact.
All advertising is built on this.
He's about what?
I would just have to earn more.
I have a child that I care about for whom I earn money.
