Bogomolov will put Handel's oratorio on Libretto Sorokin

In May 2018, at the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko will take place the premiere of the oratorio of Handel “Triumph of Time and Pravda” in the production of director Konstantin Bogomolov on the libretto of the writer Vladimir Sorokin.

“Triumph of Time and Pravda” is the first oratorio of Handel. He composed it in 1707 in Italy, the author of the Libretto became the famous patron of the arts of the Roman Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili. Subsequently, the composer turned to this work twice: the second and third editions of Triumph were presented in London in 1737 and 1757.

The heroes of the oratorio - allegorical characters Time and truth (in the original version - disappointment), beauty and pleasure - argue with each other, and as a result they defeat time and truth.

“When preparing the project, I thought about asking the great Russian writer and my friend Vladimir Sorokin to write a new translation/version/original text of the libretto,” writes Bogomolov, noting the literary imperfection of the text of Cardinal Pamfili “as opposed to great music”.

“My idea has found a complete understanding of the theater and its leadership, for which I am infinitely grateful. - reports the director. - Vladimir Sorokin wrote an incredible text. I believed that being a unique stylist, Sorokin would perfectly feel salt and essence, I cherished the secret literary idea that Sorokin is the new Baroque, Baroque of the 21st century, but I could not think that I would get the text, absolutely congenial to Handel's music. ”
