1937 NKVD operation in Checheno-Ingushetia

80 years ago, on July 31, 1937, during the "general operation to seize anti-Soviet elements," the NKVD in one day arrested 14,000 residents of Checheno-Ingushetia, including almost all the leaders of the republic, as well as religious figures and representatives of science and culture. Many of those arrested were shot.
