In Barnaul, a local resident was sentenced to a year in prison for recruitment into Tablighi Jamaat

On July 26, the Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Barnaul sentenced 42-year-old local resident Urmonzhon Idrisov to a year in a penal colony under Part 1.1 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (involving a person in the activities of an extremist organization). This is reported by the analytical center "Sova" with reference to the FSB in the Altai Republic.

According to the FSB, Idrisov rented a cafe and set up a prayer room for weekly meetings. The department claims that he tried to persuade the residents of Barnaul and Novosibirsk to participate in the activities of Tablighi Jamaat and inspired them that the preached doctrine was the only true one. In addition, according to law enforcement agencies, Idrisov, knowing that the Tablighi Jamaat organization was banned in Russia as extremist, observed conspiracy measures, demanding the same from his followers. The man confessed.

The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the SOVA center, this ban was unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and was not seen in any calls for violence.
