Today, on August 1, in the center of Moscow, police officers detained a freelance correspondent for Novaya Gazeta, Vecherdi Nurmatov, published under the pseudonym Ali Feruz.

According to Mediazona , the detention occurred at the entrance to the edition of the publication. The journalist was delivered to the Basmannaya police department "to establish personality."

“I am checked on the database whether I am wanted,” Nurmatov wrote on Facebook.

The website of Novaya Gazeta published a statement by its editor -in -chief Dmitry Muratov.

“ Vecherdi Nurmatov was born in Russia. His mother lives in Russia, in the Altai Territory. Therefore, the issuance of it to another state by law is impossible. - reminds Muratov. “I also want to note that Nurmatov appealed to the court and is in the stage of preparing a whole package of documents that will finally help him find the right to legal existence.”

In March, the police had already detained Vecherdi Nurmatov for violation of migration legislation. Then he was released, drawing up a protocol on an administrative offense, providing for a deportation to Uzbekistan. In early May, it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation refused to provide Nurmatov with political asylum.

PS in the ATS "Basmannoy" on Nurmatov drew up a protocol under Part 3.1 of Art. 18.8 Administrative Code (“Violation by a foreign citizen of the rules of entry into the Russian Federation or the regime of stay in the Russian Federation”). According to Interfax , the journalist has already been taken to the Basmanny Court. He faces a fine of up to 7,000 rubles and expulsion from Russia.
