Experts talked about the evolution of "Russian hackers"

The Kobalt hacker group, presumably founded by Russians, in the first half of 2017 attacked 250 companies in 12 countries. This was written by RBC with reference to the study of Positive Technologies, which is at the disposal of the publication.

Cobalt, resembles RBC, is known for attacks on banks. As Positive Technologies found out, hackers are evolving: now they are breaking partners of financial organizations (state bodies, telecom operators and industrial companies).

“Attacks on non -financial organizations are carried out with the aim of preparing a bridgehead for subsequent attacks on banks. For example, attackers can send phishing letters on behalf of the regulator or partner of the bank, for whom he provides services, ”explained RBC the representative of Positive Technologies Alexey Novikov.

According to him, it becomes more difficult for hackers to attack banking infrastructure, since the companies of this sector are constantly improving protection against cyberosis.

Positive Technologies noted that 75% of all Cobalt attacks fall on the credit and financial sphere, experts call them new hacks “more sophisticated”.

The team “massively sends phishing letters from fake domains that mimic messages from VISA, MasterCard, the response center to cyber attacks in the financial sphere of the Central Bank of Russia (FinCert) and the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” RBC quoted data.

According to Positive Technologies, Cobalt group "leads in terms of danger for the domestic financial environment as the most professional and technically savvy."
