Former senator Konstantin Tsybko was sentenced to nine years in a maximum security colony for bribery

The Ozersk City Court of the Chelyabinsk Region sentenced Konstantin Tsybko, a former member of the Federation Council from the Chelyabinsk Region, to nine years in a strict regime colony, who was found guilty of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale (part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Tsybko was also fined 70 million rubles.

• Konstantin Tsybko was accused of receiving a bribe in 2011-2012 from Yevgeny Tarasov, head of the administration of the Ozersk city district, for assistance in the appointment and from businessman Oleg Laknitsky “for lobbying his commercial interests.”
• In a press release, the UK named the total amount of these bribes at 21 million rubles; earlier it was about 27.5 million.
• Tsybko pleaded not guilty. The prosecution asked to sentence him to 14 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 500 million rubles.
