Irkutsk regional court began to consider a lawsuit to return direct elections of the mayor

The Irkutsk Regional Court has begun to consider the claim of the regional regional committee of the Communist Party to the Legislative Assembly, which deflected the bill on the return of direct elections of the mayor of Irkutsk.

On August 3, hearing in the Irkutsk Regional Council began on the claim of the Communists to the Legislative Assembly. In addition to representatives of the Communist Party and the relevant committee of the Legislative Assembly as an interested person, the representative of the territorial election commission participates in the consideration of the claim, TASS reports .

“Today the case was presented in the regional court, the parties brought their arguments, after which the court requested additional documents. In this regard, a break was announced in a meeting until August 8, ”the agency was told in the press service of the regional court.

At the end of June, the Legislative Assembly rejected the bill introduced by the Communists, which involves the return of direct elections of the mayor of Irkutsk. Now the heads of all municipalities of the region are elected popular voting, except for the regional center, where direct elections of the mayor were canceled in 2015.

At the same time, the question of the return of direct elections of the mayor of Irkutsk was raised at the session of the regional parliament for the second time. Earlier, the deputies rejected the RECRIP of the Communist Party of the Communist Party to hold a referendum in which the inhabitants of Irkutsk could independently determine the mechanism of the election of the mayor. Even then, the governor-communist Sergei Levchenko announced his intention to sue.

As Taiga.info previously reported, in December 2014, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly decided to elect the mayor of Irkutsk from the local Duma, and give the executive branch to the city manager, which would be appointed by a special commission with the participation of the regional authorities.

Later, the mayor returned the powers of the head of the administration. Both decisions were made by the regional Legislative Assembly - they were against members of the Communist Party faction and the “civilian platform” who advocate maintaining direct elections.

The city plan approved the proposed amendments. The mayor was the speaker of the city parliament, United Russia Dmitry Berdnikov, the son of an adviser to the prosecutor general of the Russian Federation Albina Kovaleva.
