The European Union imposed sanctions against Russian partners of Siemens and the Deputy Minister of Energy

On August 4, the European Union imposed sanctions in connection with the supply of Siemens turbines to Crimea against the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Andrey Cherezov, the head of the department of the Ministry of Energy Yevgeny Grabchak and the general director of Technopromexport Sergey Topor-Gilka.

The sanctions list also included the subsidiary of Rostec, Technopromexport, and the company Interavtomatika, in which participated Siemens . Both of these companies are associated with the supply of turbines to the Crimea.

The fact that the EU has prepared new restrictive measures in connection with the supply of turbines to the Crimea, on August 4, reported Reuters . Back in July, the agency wrote that Germany proposed imposing sanctions against officials of the Ministry of Energy and companies involved in the supply of turbines.

According to the agency, Germany wanted to impose sanctions on four people, but Italy opposed the listing of one of them.

In total, the list of people and companies against which the EU has imposed sanctions due to the violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine now includes 153 people and 40 legal entities.

• In July, it became known that four Siemens gas turbines, manufactured in Russia and officially intended for a project in the Krasnodar Territory, were delivered to the Crimea. This happened despite the fact that sanctions prohibit European companies from supplying power industry equipment to Crimea.
• The Vedomosti newspaper reported back in 2015 that the turbines were intended for delivery to the Crimea and would be sent to Taman only to circumvent sanctions. Until July 2017, Siemens insisted that the turbines were intended specifically for the Taman project.
• In July, Siemens filed a lawsuit against its partner Technopromexport, accusing it of deliberate misrepresentation. In their contract, as stated in the lawsuit, a ban on the supply of equipment to the Crimea was specifically prescribed. The German company also stopped deliveries of generating equipment to Russian state-owned companies.
• Technopromexport acknowledged the supply of Siemens turbines to the Crimea and stated that they had been modernized before being sent there. The company noted that they offered Siemens to buy out the turbines, but the concern refused.
