"Ilim" convicted of harm to nature

Ilim Group OJSC obliged to compensate for damage caused to nature as a result of industrial wood harvesting. The company carried out a continuous deforestation of forests on an area of ​​more than 30 thousand hectares.

According to the prosecutor's office of the Irkutsk region, the Ilim Group in 2013-2015 under a lease made a continuous deforestation on an area of ​​more than 30 thousand hectares. This, as prosecutors considered, entailed a violation of the constitutional rights of citizens to a favorable environment, since harm was harmful to the animal and its habitat.

At the request of the prosecutor's office, the service for the protection and use of the animal world calculated the damage caused, which amounted to more than 8.5 million rubles.

In April 2017, the Ust-Ilim City Court satisfied the claims of the interdistrict prosecutor. However, Ilim Group OJSC appealed the judicial act on appeal. The Irkutsk Regional Court was recognized as legal.
