“In the Mongolian hydroelectric station. We made an offer to supply electricity from us. We have a surplus in the region, the Gusinoozerskaya GRES is not loaded. Previously, we get a competitive price for electricity: what they will take ours - or receive from their hydroelectric power station (taking into account investment costs for this hydroelectric power station). They get on credit with China with a hydroelectric power station. The acting head of Buryatia asked the head of state to instruct the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, to work out the "balance of electricity and the volume of investments so that we can give an official offer for the price." During the meeting, the director of wwf Russia Igor Veestin pointed out high risks for Lake Baikal from the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Mongolia and complained about the legal unresolved this issue. He sees the decision in the participation of Russia in the International Convention to assess the impact on the environment. This position finds support at the international level: in July, KVN UNESCO in the resolution of the 41st session recommended that two countries conduct a joint cross-border EME in the field of hydropower and use water resources that can have a potential effect on Lake Baikal.
