The return of Lana Del Ray, an adult album of rapper Tyler and the Arcade Fire record, which was not appreciated.
TJ launches monthly musical reviews. Now in the final of each month we will talk about musicians who were discussed a lot in the past 30 days - thanks to albums, new songs or clips. In the first issue - four July records and two songs, which are worth making an opinion.
The end of sadness and turning into a witch to "Lust for Life"
Unlike Ultraviolence and Honeymoon, the previous albums of the Lana, which were precisely verified exercises in retro and southern Gothic, Lust for Life seems to be a more light and cheerful album. Even on his cover, Lana smiles, and not as usual sad, for which they have already passed in memes . For greater relevance, The Weeknd and a couple of popular rappers, such as A $ AP Rocky and Playboi Carti, were still earned here. Yes, and the main songs from the album, “Love” and “Lust for Life”, rather about how good it is to be young, crazy and in love, and not that all worthy people die young (although there are songs about it too).
The fans of the retro style familiar to Lana will also not remain offended-there are joint tracks with Shone Lennon and Stevie NIX from the Fleetwood Mac group (which Lana clearly actively copies), and the songs like “13 Beaches” or “Change” could sound in the titers of black and white films of the Golden era of Hollywood, it shock and hut -up sound.
And if we already talk about fans, then Lust for Life is unlikely to bring something new to the image of the singer and now you will not love her if you are not loved before. Another thing is that Lana becomes much freer and stronger - practically does not sing about toxic relationships and personal life, but she is worried about the fate of America and participates in the witch (!) Ritual against Trump.
Flower Boy as the best album of summer
Tyler Okhama became famous as a shocking rapper and the creator of the Odd Future music group, which once included Frank Ocean, Earl Svitshot and other prominent hip-hop musicians. For some time, Tyler was frantically popular in Russia-probably everything because he would not climb into his pocket (the line “ Kill People, Burn Shit, Fuck School ” is not yet the most tough in his repertoire), and indeed for many ways (in one of his most famous clips, he eats a cockroach, pushes and hangs at the end).
Against the backdrop of all this, his new Flower Boy album, originally called Scum Fuck Flower Boy, looks like an album-adolescence, on which Tyler almost completely ceased to be a shock-rape with a dubious taste. In the past, a noble feminine and homophobic, now he is hanging out with Kara Delevin and Kendall Gener, and because of some lines on Flower Boy, the Western media suspected him in a camming-out-in general, people are changing.
In musically, everything is different here too. Tyler began to noticeably get tired of rap on the previous album “Cherry Bomb”, say that he wants to sing, and not to read (although he said, he does not know how to sing), besides, he himself recently liked Funk. Flower Boy finally completes this transformation. With the exception of a pair of songs like “Who Dat Boy” and “I Ain't Got No Time”, Wkama released Frank Osena’s full pop album in the spirit of “Channel Orange”. Tyler tries to say about all the important things that he recently understood in his life, whether it be “Tell Thuese Black Kids They Can Behold or“ Find Some Time to Do S gring ”.
In general, Tyler himself in this album fades into the background - there are a lot of other people here, whether it be Farrell Williams or the same Frank Ocean, Steve Leisi from The Internet or the little -known Norwegian singer Anna of the North. Even speaking at the show of Stephen Kolbert, Tyler himself reads only one and a half verse, but he calls a bunch of friends who sing, dance and have a great time. That is, they do what should be done to this music.
Spynner album "EVERYTHINGESNS"
Arcade Fire is probably one of the most recognizable Western groups that have appeared in the last 15 years, and its significance is not so easy to challenge. True, recently the monumental reputation of this smart rock collection began to tremble. After the almost classic first three Arcade Fire albums, excessively pathos, but still pleasant “Reflector” was released ( the title song from it wanted to pick up David Bowie, which in itself is a compliment), and then “EVERYTHINGING NOW”, with which everything is not so simple. Among the Western critics and fans, a split occurred-someone calls this album the worst in the group’s career and lazy on all fronts, someone considers the opposite.
“EVERYTHINGSHING NOW” can be hated at least because of its marketing campaign- an account in social networks in Russian (when the mention of Russia does not leave the American media), a parody review of your album allegedly on the Stereogum website (when fake news is almost the main problem of the entire Internet) and the promises to release its own phythelet-spinner for $ 100 (when Spinners finally got bored with everyone). The album itself, suddenly produced by one of the participants in DaFT Punk, also climbs out of his pants, trying to be relevant and topical, but because of this flicker, Arcade Fire was forgotten to write at least a little interesting music. At the same time, they completely lost their sense of proportion, composing, for example, a song about a girl who cuts veins under their first album.
If earlier this music was largely an attempt to escape from reality and rethink it, now Arcade Fire personifies this very reality, as if placing the listener a footboard-but it is not clear to someone at least someone.
Objectivation of men in the video "Boys"
Singer Charlie XCX in the last five years has been absolutely everywhere. She wrote an unlucking song “ I Love It ” for Icona Pop, was a very “ Fancy ” with Iggy Azalia, released her own hits like “ Boom Clap ” and “ Break The Rules ”, was hanging out with the PC Music label and what she had not yet done. “Boys” is the first news from the upcoming album, and just a grandiose song from the very first second.
All thanks to the video - there is nothing in it except a few dozen half -naked men of all stripes (whether the Canadian singer Mack Demarko, Estonian Tommy Cache, actor from the last Star Wars, Reese Ahmed or the leader of the Hurts group Theo Hatchcraft), which are lying on the floor, doused with water and languidly look into the camera. Singing the lines like “I Was Busy Thinkin '' Bout Boys", Charlie objectifies men to the fullest and shows that it seems that they seem to be cool from this too and nothing bad in this, at the same time ironically criticizing such a phenomenon as Male Gaze . Even without a clip, this song again proves that Charlie is one of the most peculiar new pop stars. What is Sample from a chorus with the sound of a coin from the game Super Mario Bros.
Hard rock, 70s and body-positive on the debut album
Interest in rock music falls every year, the genre does not develop, but this does not interfere with groups like Sheer Mag. Their first album “Need to Feel Your Love” sounds like a sip of fresh air, not because it brings something new, but rather because it is successfully inspired by music about 40 years ago. Sheer Mag composes dirty, daring and maximum dance songs that take all the best from hard rock, proto-punk and rock and roll not only in terms of music, but also in terms of style. Their logo seemed to flew straight from the 70s, a mustache and jeans are also as if from that period, and they sing either about love, then about social problems. Another greetings from the classic hard rock is the tall and squeaky vocals of frontwown Tina Haladay, which also looks very impressive . Infrequently, in rock music, you will see a woman of such an complexion that confidently breaks away to her joy.
However, punk aesthetics here is not only how Sheer Mag sound and look. Need to Feel Your Love was released entirely on their own on their own label. Such a choice was more intentional than forced - as the group said in an interview with Fader, agents of almost all major alternative labels were worn behind them, but they decided to cope themselves. Until recently, Sheer Mag was not fundamentally given an interview, they have no accounts on social networks, manager or PRAR, which does not prevent them from traveling to giant tours, to speak at the Coachella festival or at the Myers Sett. A good example of the fact that for success you do not need big money and large labels - everything can be done with your own hands.
Unobvious hit that the rapper loves women best
Tai dollars Sayin signed up with every second popular rapper and pop stars, released at least three platinum hit, but still remains in the shadow of other artists. Two years ago, he recorded one of the most difficult rap albums of 2015 “Free TC” (which other rappers will have the entire songs of an acoustic guitar and strings?), Filling stars like Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. Last year, he released the Kampaign political mixedup, and this summer he posted a new song from the upcoming album “Beach House 3”.
“Love U Better” is a finished material for dance floor and radio, which, most likely, you will not hear on dance and radio. Lil Wayne and The-Dream lit up in the song (another shadow r'n'b-musician, about whose greatness they joked even in the series “Rick and Morty”), and the bit made DJ Mustard, from which hits come out completely. So at least a candidate for the title of an unobvious hit of the summer “Love U Better” may well become. By the way, the cover of the single with tanned breasts and then from the necklace is made for a reason - this necklace can be bought on the website of the Warner Music label. In general, these cunning rappers even monetized female breasts, who would have thought.
