1942. Yanush Korchak died

75 years ago, on August 6, 1942, a Polish Jewish teacher, writer, doctor and public figure Yanush Korchak (Heinrik Goldshmidt) died in Treblink's concentration camp.

When an order came to deport the orphanage of the orphans created by him - a shelter for Jewish children - from the Warsaw ghetto, Korchak went with 200 children to the station, from where they were sent to the death camp in commodity wagons. He refused the freedom proposed at the last minute and chose to stay with the children, taking death with them in the gas chamber.
