French President Emmanuel Macron faced public indignation, as soon as it became known about his desire to officially make his wife Brigitte the first lady. The petition against this decision of Macron gained more than 170 thousand signatures in two weeks, reports Huffington Post .
"There is no reason for the wife of the head of state to receive funds from the state budget," said one of the initiators of the campaign against financing the wife of the head of state, the leader of the National Equality of Tierry Paul Valett.
According to him, France citizens should not approve the initiative about the special status for the first lady of the country, since during the presidential campaign Macron said that his wife would play a social role, which means that he would not apply for financing.
Brigitte Macron has two or three assistants, two secretaries and two security officers. According to Valett, this is quite enough. "There is not a single reason why the wife of the head of state could receive money from state funds," he said.
The text of the petition was posted by the initiators of the campaign on the Change.org website. The document, which collected more than 170 thousand signatures on Sunday, is addressed to President Emmanuel Macron and the head of government Eduar Philip.
Earlier, deputies from the Party "Unobtracted France" in the National Assembly unsuccessfully tried to amend that the president’s wife, as well as the wife of members of the government and parliamentarians, should not receive financial resources from the state for their status.
