The 33-year-old Arkady Vyatchanin, who recently received American citizenship , told the R-Sport agency, which awaits the response from the International Swimming Federation (FINA) if possible to play for the US national team.
"I’m going to speak (for the US national team) if I get into the team. I'm waiting for an answer from Fina," Vyatchanin said.
In 2013, Vyatchanin said that he was stopping his speech for the Russian team (due to the slander of the head coach of the Russian national team Anatoly Zhuravlev, who called him a liability ) and intends to represent Serbia at competitions. He received the citizenship of this country in May 2015 .
However, later the International Swimming Federation forbade the athlete to represent Serbia, since the rules for moving to another team were violated. Because of this, Vyatchanin missed the 2016 Olympic Games.
At the 2008 Games in Beijing, Vyatchanin won bronze medals in swimming on his back at distances of 100 and 200 meters. Also, the 33-year-old swimmer has three silver and one bronze awards of the world championships.
