July 1, 2017 turned 20 years old, as Aman Tuleyev heads the Kemerovo region. In fact, for the first time he became the main in Kuzbass back in 1990, when he not only elected to the Supreme Council of the RSFSR, but also became the head of the regional executive committee (translating from the Soviet language, the governor) of the Kemerovo region.
The country found out about him during the first elections of the President of Russia, where he scored a little less than 7%. During the August putsch, Tuleyev supported the State Emergency Committee, for which Yeltsin removed him from the post of head of the regional executive committee. The enmity between Tuleyev and the first president of Russia continued until Putin came to power.
Yeltsin appointed Mikhail Kislyuk governor of Kuzbass, but Tuleyev did not disappear from the political scene. In October 1993, he supported the Supreme Council, in the same year he elected to the Federation Council (75.5 % of the vote), and in 1994 he became the speaker of the Kemerovo Duma (his “democracy” block gained 63 %). In 1995, Tuleyev went to the State Duma on the Communist Party lists, but refused the mandate to stay in Kuzbass. The next year, he again ran for the president of Russia, but in the end he took off his candidacy in favor of Zyuganov.
In 1997, Yeltsin, due to the unpopularity of Kislyuk and the threat of unrest in the region, handed it back and appointed Tuleyev as the governor.
“If he had not supported the State Emergency Committee, he could have been [the governor] for 27 years, that is, the oldest ( at the moment the longest from the governors in power is the Belgorod governor Yevgeny Savchenko - ed. ).
“He has an incredible political instinct - so, he refused to receive the Order of Honor from Yeltsin in 1999, but a year later he accepted him from Putin ...”
If I thought that that temporary man, he could continue to bend his line, ” Kemerovo political analyst Alexander Konovalov tells me (confidant President Putin in the 2012 elections). He does not exclude that if not for the Kazakh origin of Tuleyev, he could become the president of Russia.
- What is the president of Tuleyev? - I clarify the associate of the governor, mayor of Kemerovo Ilya Seredyuk .
- I am sure that being at any post, he would preach human values, to which he himself belongs very reverently.
- That is, the Russians missed a chance to live well?
Seredyuk instead of an answer, somehow embarrassedly grinning.
