1792 Storming of the Tuileries Palace

225 years ago, on August 10, 1792, the national guards of the Paris Commune and volunteers from Marseille and Brittany stormed the royal palace of the Tuileries, which was defended by the Swiss guards and a group of nobles. Of the 900 Swiss, only 300 survived. About 200 nobles were also killed. The rebels lost 376 people killed and wounded. King Louis XVI was arrested, and six weeks later the monarchy in France was abolished.
