In Russia, a prototype of wind installations with increased efficiency of work in the expanded wind speed, including low values-3-6 m/s, have been created. The geography of the development of development is at least 70% of the surface of the land, which creates the prerequisites for the emergence of a new segment of the global wind energy market. The implementation of the project is told by the General Director of the VDM-Technician developer , Vladimir Masolov.
The creators of the new highly effective wind energy installation (VAU), employees of the Russian company VDM-Technica (Ventilic Disco Minute Technologies), for more than 20 years have been engaged in the development and experimental production of electric motors and electric generators based on synchronous electric machines with excitement of permanent magnets, power and control electronics.
Creating a unique wind generator
In 2014, the company became a member of the cluster of energy -efficient technologies of the Skolkovo Foundation . And in 2015–2017 It implements a project co -financing by the fund. “The Skolkovo Foundation supports world-class projects,” emphasizes the general director of VDM-Technics. “The decision to support our project was made after a positive conclusion from international experts.” He also notes financial, organizational, information support received by the company from Skolkovo.
The project solves the problem of the absence of electric generators for the VAU, which allowed to effectively use wind energy for areas with low-average annual wind speed 3-6 m/s. And thus, VDM-Technics created a fundamentally new “smart” generator of small windshields for “green energy”.
Employees of the VDM-Technica company, leading specialists of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, took the main part in the creation of a wind installation (wind generator). “During the implementation of the project, scalable technical solutions were developed to ensure active regulation of power selection and energy transformation of a low -potential wind flow, on the basis of which a wind -energy installation of VEU VDM was created,” says Vladimir Masolov.
Within the framework of the project, they developed: firstly, the “heart” of the VAU-a synchronous electric generator with a stator of a demon-based design that allows you to effectively work both in small and strong winds; Secondly, the “brains” of the VAU is an electronic energy converter that allows you to adjust the moment on the shaft and use the algorithms for effective selection of the windbreaker power, and thirdly, the windshield adapted to the low-than-potential wind flow.
Gold of Europe
Last year, the winding power regulation system created by the “system of winding selection” received a gold medal at the 44th international exhibition of inventions in Geneva. According to Vladimir Masolov, the victory confirmed the relevance of the problem and brought some moral satisfaction.
Skolkovo also believes that attention to the still developed installation is caused by high demand for highly effective wind generator. “The insufficient energy efficiency of generators is a factor that restrains the spread of windmills in huge areas in Russia, in India, in African countries. It is with this factor that I associate a high interest in the new generator from VDM -Technicia, ”says Anton Skibin, head of the electric power industry, energy accumulation, hydrogen technologies, environmental transport" of the Closure of Energy Efficient Technologies of the Fund.
Unprecedented indicators
New technical solutions developed by the Skolkovo resident ensure the efficient operation of the VAU with the installed capacity (KIUM) use factor of at least 32% and the estimated cost of 0.15 USD/kWh in conditions with an average annual wind speed of 4 m/s or more. The value of the VAU VWM kuum for territories with an average annual wind speed of 5-10 m/s is 50-60%, which is an unprecedentedly high indicator for low-power wind installations.

“VAU VDM has unique competitive advantages in the“ small ”winds. For a terrain with a low average annual wind speed of 3-4 m/s (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Delhi, Atlanta, Seattle, Toronto, etc.), the installed capacity is 3 times higher, and the cost of electricity is 3 times lower than that of analogues-curtains. Successfully used in the world at medium annual winds of wind 7.5-10 m/s windbround, in Russia they work ineffectively, and in most of the territory (the average annual wind speed of 3-4 m/s) do not work at all, ”Vladimir Masolov describes the advantages of development.

Also, new wind installations adapted to the cold climate can be successfully used as part of hybrid power supply systems for objects and settlements of remote and inaccessible territories.
Within the framework of the project, on the created test site in St. Petersburg, windmoning was performed (GOST R 54418.2, IEC 61400-2) and field tests of the VAU (GOST R 54418.12.1, IEC 61400-12-1) using the hardware and software complex. Online broadcasting of the work of VEU VDM is currently underway .
“At the request of the Fund for the first time in Russia, field tests of VEU were conducted in accordance with international standards at the created wind precipitum. The international examination of the project was carried out by DNV GL - the largest European body for certification of energy equipment, ”Skolkovo emphasizes the participation of the company Vladimir Masolov.

In addition, development in the field of active regulation of power selection and transformation of wind flow energy is issued by international applications PCT/RU2015/000918 and PCT/RU2016/000868 for the issuance of patents for the invention. According to the Director General of VDM-Technics, a positive decision of the international search body (PCT) has already been received in relation to novelty, inventive level and industrial applicability compared to similar developments in Russia and the world.
Marat Khalimov, a project manager of energy -efficient technologies of the Skolkovo Foundation, commented by the competitive environment of development of the resident: “On the market of small WAU, the share of American companies is about 50%, and manufacturers of small VAU from China are developing rapidly. However, the difference between the VAU with the EMG LLC VDM-Tekhnika from existing solutions in the market is a fairly high coefficient of using the installed capacity (Kium). "
Plans for the future
The company plans to develop the VEU VEM project in two directions. The first direction is the introduction of innovative wind power plants: development of the commercial line of VEU, organization of experimental production, organization of sales. The second direction is to create autonomous hybrid power supply systems with a high level of fuel substitution based on renewable energy sources for objects and settlements of remote and inaccessible territories.
The Skolkovo Foundation does not doubt the prospects and demand for the development of VDM-Technics. Marat Khalimov gives WWEA: the VEU market will grow steadily by 20% from 2015 to 2020, it is predicted that annually the installed capacity will reach 240 MW, and the total installed capacity will exceed 1.75 GW by 2020.
“Given the development trends of the market, the most popular for households can be considered a FAU with a capacity of 0.5-5 kW, for industrial and commercial consumers, small FAUs with a capacity of 5-15 kW are in demand. VDM-Technics is currently aimed at this target segment and is developing commercial versions of the VAU (5-15 kW). We hope that the company will be able to provide the above competitive advantages in the scaling of developments, ”says Marat Khalimov.
