2007 Bombing of the Nevsky Express train

Ten years ago, on August 13, 2007, there was an accident on the Nevsky Express train between Moscow and St. Petersburg in the area of ​​Malaya Vishera. An electric locomotive and 12 wagons derailed. Of the 231 passengers and 20 people of the train crew, 60 were injured. The cause of the accident was the detonation of an improvised explosive device on the tracks.

People from Chechnya were accused of organizing the attack. In 2010, Salambek Dzakhkiev and Maksharip Khidriev were sentenced to 10 and 4 years in strict and general regime colonies, respectively, on charges of illegally transporting explosives to blow up the Nevsky Express. The perpetrators of the attack have not yet been found.
