The Moscow City Court overturned the fine of a pensioner detained at a rally on March 26

On August 16, the Moscow City Court canceled the fine for Turana Varzhabetyan, who was detained at a rally against corruption on March 26. During the arrest, the policeman dislocated the activist's shoulder. It is reported by the Foundation "Public verdict"

On May 22, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow fined Varzhabetyan 10,000 rubles for violating the procedure for participating in a public event (part 5 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). During the arrest on March 26, Varzhabetyan dislocated his shoulder. There were a number of inconsistencies in the case file: in particular, a different surname was indicated in the offense report.

“The reason for the cancellation of the decision is procedural. The court considered that in the first instance no decision was made to transfer the case to another judge, and no one notified the defense about this, ”comments Elena Pershakova, head of the legal practice for protecting the freedoms of citizens of the Foundation, comments on the decision of the court.

The Moscow City Court sent the case for a new trial to the Tverskoy District Court. Varzhabetyan's interests are represented by Alexey Laptev, a lawyer from the Public Verdict Foundation.

On May 6, 2012, Varzhabetyan was already detained, a law enforcement officer hit the activist on the head with a rubber truncheon. The criminal case initiated on the basis of the activist's complaint was closed and reopened several times .
