iPhone 7 retains the title of best-selling smartphone in the world

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus smartphones of the American corporation in the second quarter of 2017 continued to lead the list of best-selling smartphones in the world, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from Strategy Analytics.

According to analysts' calculations, a total of 360.4 million smartphones were sold worldwide from April to June. 4.7% (16.9 million) of all sales were accounted for by the iPhone 7 smartphone. At the same time, shipments and market share of the model decreased compared to the first quarter, when they amounted to 21.5 million units, or 6% of the global market.

“iPhone 7 remains the most popular smartphone model in the world, thanks to its attractive combination of user-friendly design, supporting applications and a wide retail network,” said Juha Winter, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics.

As for the iPhone 7 Plus, sales of this model amounted to 15.1 million (4.2% of the market). In the first quarter, shipments of this model amounted to 17.4 million units, accounting for 5% of the total global smartphone market.

Third place in the list of best-selling smartphone models was taken by the flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8 with 10.2 million units sold (2.8% of the market). The next line was taken by the Samsung Galaxy S8+ (9 million units sold, 2.5% of the market).

“Samsung's Galaxy S8 has instantly become the world's most popular Android smartphone, thanks to its eye-catching curved design, rich portfolio of apps and best-in-class retail presence in dozens of countries,” said Neil Mawston, head of Strategy Analytics.

Finally, the Redmi 4A from the Chinese company Xiaomi took fifth place in the list of best-selling smartphones. Sales of this model amounted to 5.5 million units (1.5% of the market).
