Ukraine without Lenin

On the territory of Ukraine, which is controlled by the authorities of this country, there are no more monuments to Lenin - in any case, in cities in public spaces. This was said on Thursday in an interview with liga.net Vladimir Vyatrovich - director of the Institute of National Memory - an organization that oversees compliance with the so -called decommunization law.

In 1991 - when the Soviet Union broke up - in Ukraine there were, according to estimates (accurate calculations here are obviously impossible), about 5 and a half thousand monuments to Lenin . The monuments stood in all regional and almost all district centers. Here, for example, a monument on the October Revolution Square in Kyiv - now it is called the Maidan of Nebulia:

This monument, like hundreds of sculptures, mainly in Western Ukraine, was demolished back in the early 1990s. The first Lenin seemed to be in Ternopol:

However, by 2013, up to two thousand monuments to Lenin remained in Ukraine (on this map areas, where at least one Lenin was preserved, are indicated yellow or red).

The new wave of Leninopad began in the days of the Euro -Maidan in the winter of 2013 - the first was a monument in Kyiv, which Ukrainian nationalists threw on December 8:

Especially actively Lenin fell in February - on the days preceding the flight of Yanukovych and immediately after him. Sometimes these were the spontaneous actions of the demonstrators, sometimes the demolition approved by local authorities.

The Lenins managed to deliver the Lenins on a wide leg after the adoption of the law on decommunization in the spring of 2015. After that, monuments to Lenin and other Soviet figures were actively dismantling in the east of the country.

They also removed the Lenins in the cities of Donbass.

Perhaps they remained in rural areas and in the territory of enterprises. The fact is that in the registers they never existed, they can only be dismantled on the fact of detection.

In addition, there is another important segment in which decommunization did not occur. This is the Crimea annexed by Russia and the DNR and LPR controlled by the DNR separatists. Lenin there stood there.

According to Vyatrovich, the majority of Ukrainian monuments to Lenin were simply defeated, but several dozen will be placed in the Soviet period, which is expected to open this year.
