In Volgograd, the head of the regional department of construction and repair of the Federal Penitentiary Service and his deputy were detained, suspected of receiving a bribe of 2 million rubles from a contractor, the Investigative Committee reports .
A criminal case was initiated under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale). The suspects deny guilt, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
According to investigators, the construction department of the Federal Penitentiary Service in 2016 concluded several contracts with the company for the reconstruction of pre-trial detention center-5 in Leninsk for a total amount of over 14.5 million rubles. During construction work, the manager demanded 15% of the contract value from the contractor.
The director of the company agreed and in March and April 2016, almost 2 million rubles were transferred to officials. FSB and Ministry of Internal Affairs operatives took part in the operation against FSIN employees. The issue of bringing the contractor to criminal liability is not specified.
The names of the detainees are not specified, but on the FSIN website the head of the department is listed as Sergei Popov.
