Russia 1 quoted a non-existent interview with the former head of MI6

Vladimir Solovyov spoke about Great Britain’s plans to seize the Caucasus with the help of radical Islam.

On August 20, on the “Sunday Evening” program, Vladimir Solovyov spoke about an interview with the head of the British intelligence service MI6. The presenter noted that after the release of the material, the revelations of the “English intelligence officer” began to be called “truth or falsehood.”

A former English intelligence officer says that the plans after the Georgian war were as follows: to seize the Caucasus, use it to break away from Russia and use radical Islam to “explode” the Caucasus and the Volga region.

Solovyov is referring to a fake interview with John Scarlett, who headed MI6 from 2004 to 2009. In it, the head of British intelligence allegedly spoke about how the “strategic plan for the collapse of Russia” created by European countries was defeated by Putin. Scarlett's words were also quoted by several Russian media .

The interview appeared on a copy site of The Guardian, in whose address the letter “i” was replaced with the Turkish letter “ı” without a dot. The text was published on August 12, after the anniversary of the 2008 conflict between Russia and Georgia.

The BBC soon explained that the interview used constructions from the Russian language, which were literally translated into English. The publication also noticed errors in spelling and style in the text.
