It turned out that Imam spent four years in a Spanish prison on charges of drug trafficking. According to ABC.es , citing EFE agency, Abdelbaki al-Sati was detained on January 1, 2010 in the autonomous city of Seuta with 136 kg of hashish. It was found that he was going to transport drugs to Alkheisiras (Autonomous Community of Andalusia).
Imam after the arrest before the trial was placed in the investigative insulator in the Set. In February 2012, the court sentenced him to four years in prison. Then, AS-Sati was transferred to Prison of the Castelon province (Valencia Autonomous Community). In 2014, he was released. According to one version, it was in prison that his radical views were finally strengthened.
Moreover, the authorities were initially issued to send an imam from Spain after serving the deadline, but the court abolished it in 2015, paying tribute to the efforts of the native of Morocco to integrate into the Spanish society.
For some time, al-Sati lived in Belgium.
