Moldova Ambassador called to the Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provoked the Moldova Ambassador in Moscow Andrei Negutsu. The reason for the meeting was the initiative of Chisinau to withdraw Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria.

The report on the Foreign Ministry’s website says that the withdrawal of troops will have a negative impact on Russian-Moldavian cooperation and settlement of the situation in Transnistria.

Earlier, Moldova asked to include the issue of withdrawing the Russian military from Transnistria to the agenda of the General Assembly. Moldovan diplomats believe that the presence of Russian troops in the region is a threat to peace and security. Russia rejected the proposal of Moldova.

In July, the Moldova Parliament accepted a statement on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria. The pro -Russian President of Moldova Igor Dodon called the statement of deputies a provocation.

The Transnistria, where the mainly Russian -speaking population lives, proclaimed independence from Moldova in 1990. The international community considers the so -called republic a part of Moldova. Russia explains the presence of troops in Transnistria "peacekeeping operation."
