Economist Sergei Aleksashenko will refrain from returning to Russia until the situation with the allegedly instituted criminal case against him is cleared up. He stated this on the air of "Echo of Moscow".

At the same time, according to Aleksashenko, he learned about the initiation of a criminal case from the media against him. His lawyers have not yet been able to find confirmation of this. Aleksashenko refused to answer what exactly happened and whether some objects were really seized from him at customs. According to the economist, everything that he says can be used in court.

On August 23, a law enforcement source told Interfax that a criminal case was opened against Aleksashenko under Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code (smuggling of cultural values) after the economist was detained at customs at the Moscow Domodedovo Airport with undeclared Soviet orders. After the seizure of the orders, Aleksashenko was released and he flew to the United States.

As the Moscow Komsomolets reported, seven orders were found in the economist’s bag that he did not declare. These are two Soviet orders of glory of the II and III degrees, released in 1943, two orders of the Red Banner of 1938, as well as copies of the orders of the Red Banner of the Turkmen, Uzbek and Tajik SSR of the 1926-1930 sample. Their total cost according to the results of the later examination was estimated at about 760 thousand rubles.

Aleksashenko said that these awards are part of his personal collection, and he takes them to a permanent place of residence in the United States. Order, added an economist, he acquired in Moscow and Kyiv. Meanwhile, he did not have permits for the removal of awards.
