Why did the rector of the RSU Evgeny Ivakhnenko fired - and what this means for the country's main humanitarian university

On Tuesday, August 29, it became known about the dismissal of the rector of the RSUSU Evgeny Ivakhnenko. He worked at this post a year and a half. In August 2017, Ivakhnenko reported on “alignment of the financial situation of the university” and even announced the “Renaissance era” that occurred at the Russian State University. Nevertheless, it was precisely the unresolved financial problems with the university branch that were a formal reason for the dismissal of the rector. At the same time, the interlocutors of Medusa note that the reason for the resignation of Ivakhnenko can be a “clerical and national-patriotic course”, which the Ministry of Education determined for the RSU.

On August 29, it became known about the dismissal of the rector of the Russian State Humanitarian University (RSU) Evgeny Ivakhnenko , several university employees told about this Medusa. The press service of the RSU Medusa confirmed that Ivakhnenko had left his post. Officially, the reasons for dismissal are not named . The temporarily acting head of the university was appointed Alexander Bezborodov, the first vice-rector for the RSUSU and the director of the Historical and Archive Institute.

Ivakhnenko served as the rector since March 2016. The reason for the dismissal of Ivakhnenko was the problems in the branches of the Russian State University, a source at the university told Medusa. One of the main tasks facing the rector of Ivakhnenko in 2016 is the solution to the financial problems of the RSUSU. In an interview with the newspaper Vuzovsky Vestnik in August 2017, he said that “by 2017, the financial situation of the university was completely leveled”: “Three-year practice of delayed payments of salaries to teachers was terminated, payables were liquidated and more. <...> Today, the RSU is experiencing the Renaissance era. ”

The fact that the formal reason for dismissal is connected with the branches, Medusa confirmed the head of the comparative history of the literature of the historical and philological faculty Igor Shaitanov. “This is some kind of financial dysfunction in the branches of the RSUSU. Ivakhnenko himself explains that the dysfunction, if it remains, is that he tried to rake these months, but did not have time, and this is not his [wine], otherwise the legacy that he got, ”says Shaitanov.

In an interview with Kommersant FM, Ivakhnenko said : “I can only say that this decision is connected with certain and completely legal requirements of the Ministry of Education. Probably, somewhere I do not correspond to them. So I can declare this so self -critical and murderous for myself. In the Ministry of Education and Science, Ivakhnenko did not call the reason for the resignation of Ivakhnenko.

Among other versions of Ivakhnenko’s resignation are its small administrative weight and unwillingness to accept a new development rate of the Russian State Humanitarian University. “The rector warned that it could be used to close a cash gap of about 300 million, and then get rid of it. The head of the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University Alexander Asmolov, who has been familiar with Ivakhnenko for more than 20 years, believes that dismissal is associated with the views of the former rector to develop the RSUSU. “Ivakhnenko tried to support the line of [the first rector of the Russian State University] Yuri Afanasyev, who created a free humanitarian university.
