Four residents of Chechnya were convicted of killing five policemen

The Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic sentenced Khusen Khusenov, Rustam Baskhanov, Makhmud Khadzhiev and Alkhazur Omarov, accused of murdering police officers in 2007 and 2008 and robbing a gas station, according to the website of the General Prosecutor's Office.

The court found them guilty under Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code (creation and participation in a gang and in the attacks committed by it), Article 317 of the Criminal Code (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer), Part 4 of Article 226 of the Criminal Code (theft of firearms as part of an organized groups), Part 3 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code (illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of firearms as part of an organized group), Part 4 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code (robbery committed by an organized group).

Baskhanov and Khadzhiev were sentenced to life in a special regime correctional colony. Khusenov and Omarov were sentenced to 19 years and 7 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.

The court found that in August-September 2007, in the Naursky district of the Chechen Republic, Khusenov created an armed gang, which included Baskhanov and Khadzhiev.

On the night of September 5, 2007, in the village of Alpatovo, Baskhanov and Khadzhiev, at the direction of Khusenov, attacked two policemen who died from their wounds. In November 2007, four defendants also robbed a gas station in the village of Chernokozovo, Naursky district. In 2008, the same group attacked police officers guarding a children's labor camp. As a result, three employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were killed. The gang members took their service weapons and fled.

RIA Novosti wrote that the accused were part of the group of Musa Zavgaev, who organized the seizure of the Press House on December 4, 2014 in Grozny. Then 15 police officers and two civilians died.
