One or more hackers were able to gain access to the personal data of popular Instagram users using a vulnerability they discovered, writes Variety .
“We recently discovered that one or more individuals gained illegal access to contact information of popular users, in particular email addresses and phone numbers, using a bug in the Instagram software interface,” Interfax quoted the service as saying. Instagram also said that the actions of the hackers did not lead to the leakage of passwords and other confidential information, and also assured users that the vulnerability had already been fixed.
As TJ clarifies, the service notified only the owners of verified accounts about the leak, but exactly how many users were affected by the actions of hackers is not specified. Moreover, among those who received a message from Instagram was the publication Meduza .
As Variety notes, Instagram's message about the leak appeared two days after the account of singer Selena Gomez, which has a record 125 million subscribers, was hacked. Then unknown people posted naked photos of Justin Bieber on Gomez’s Instagram, but pretty soon the Instagram administration helped the singer regain access to her account, and Bieber’s photos were deleted. It is currently unknown whether this hack is related to the leak of other accounts.
