The Central District Court of Volgograd decided to place Alexei Volkov, the coordinator of Navalny's Volgograd headquarters, under house arrest at the place of registration in St. Petersburg. about this Volkov wrote on Twitter. Volkov is accused of rehabilitating Nazism for publishing a picture with a sculpture "Motherland" in greenery.
The investigation requested that the measure of restraint be changed to detention for a month and three days. The prosecutor suggested house arrest.
Earlier Thursday, an investigator detained Volkov at the airport in Volgograd, who on Wednesday called the activist with a promise to detain him as soon as he returned to the city.
According to investigators, Volkov violated his travel ban when he left for Moscow. According to the activist, he was verbally allowed to make that trip.
Volkov is charged under Part 3 of Art. 354.1 (“public desecration of the symbol of Russian military glory”). As desecration, the investigation interprets the publication on the Internet of a picture in which the monument "Motherland" seems to be doused with green paint.
