There are reasons to believe that in May 2012, Pavel Durov, who had not yet left Russia a major shareholder of the VKontakte social network, was in a good mood. It was at this time that he, for example,, together with the team, for the sake of a joke, began to throw away five thousandth banknotes from the window of his office on Nevsky Prospekt, which made a lot of noise. And in the same month, Durov kindly agreed to write a column for the Republic , in which he outlined his own vision of how the technique and the school system itself will change. On the eve of September 1, we took out this text from the archive five years ago, which, we should admit, did not lose their relevance in anything. The educational system still needs a technological and mental update. And this is what the methods look like with which, according to the creator of VKontakte and Telegram, this will someday be done.
Humanity differs from other species in that it is able to transmit information to the next generation. However, judging by the secondary education system rolling into the abyss, we have practically forgotten how to do this. In the XXI century, a new paradigm of education will be created, which has little in common with the current one.
Modern secondary schools were conceived in the outgoing industrial era. They are organized in the image of factories - with calls, shifts and strict workshop division characteristic of factories. This system applies to children as raw materials for the manufacture of future workers and clerks. The distribution of children into classes occurs on the basis of age, as if the main characteristic of people for the system is the date of their manufacture.
For many decades, such a factory model helped create the army of workers and their superiors so necessary for the developed countries. Today, Western countries can no longer compete with the East in the industrial plane, and their standardized secondary schools produce only the unemployed armies.
Western society, unable to see the systemic crisis of school education, is increasingly announcing “defective” not schools, but the children themselves, who are assigned by the ADHD label (attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder) and prescribes narcotic psychosimulators like Ritalin. These stimulants dull the sensory perception of the child and make him focus on the textbook, a cool board and the teacher.
Without stimulants, many children whom official pharmacology has declared patients are distracted by the surrounding information abundance in the form of films, clips, games and interactive Internet services. However, the behavior of these children is understandable and without diagnoses.
Today, more resources, talent and creative efforts can be invested in the manufacture of one Hollywood blockbuster than in the entire school curriculum for a particular subject. Hard competition in the media market has led to the fact that the best artists, the best composers and the best writers are sometimes involved in the creation of mass art products.
The centralized education system is trying to contrast all these creative resources with standard textbooks, black and white boards and poor teachers. While media companies have mastered modern forms of transmission of information, schools as if frozen in the 20th century. Obviously, soon the secondary education system will have to completely change - or disappear as unnecessary.
What will the system of formation of the future look like?
