The ex-mayor of Vladivostok Viktor Cherepkov died

In Moscow, after a long illness, the former mayor of Vladivostok, a deputy of the State Duma of two convocations, Viktor Cherepkov, died. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the former assistant Arthur Grokhovsky.

Cherepkov died at the 76th year of his life in the Central Clinical Hospital of the Presidential Affairs Management.

In 1980-1990, Cherepkov served as the head of the military-technical information department of the Pacific Fleet. On August 19, 1991, he declared himself the commander of the fleet and ordered not to comply with the orders of the State Emergency Committee. In 1993, Cherepkov retired with the rank of captain of the first rank.

In June 1993, Cherepkov won the election of the mayor of Vladivostok. At the same time, he was in conflict with the Governor of the Primorsky Territory Yevgeny Nazzratenko. In April 1994, Cherepkov was charged with receiving a bribe. After his refusal to leave the office, riot police took the city hall building with a storm.

On November 28, 1994, the Prosecutor General’s prosecutor's prosecutor’s criminal prosecution of Cherepkov was in the absence of a crime and opened a new criminal case on the fact of falsification of a bribe.

Nevertheless, on December 23, 1994, President Boris Yeltsin signed a decree on the removal of Cherepkov from the mayor’s office with the wording “due to a long failure to fulfill official duties”. But Cherepkov went to court and in September 1996 achieved restoration in his position. On November 28, 1998, Cherepkov was again suspended already in connection with the expiration of the term of office.

In March 2000, Cherepkov was elected by the deputy of the State Duma of the third convocation, he became a member of the Committee of the Lower Chamber of Security. In 2004, Cherepkov was re -elected deputy of the State Duma.

In 2012, Cherepkov nominated his candidacy for the president of Russia , but refused to submit signatures to the Central Election Commission in his support. “Let everyone be registered without collecting signatures, or candidates from the Duma parties collect these two million,” Skupkov said. According to him, by this moment he has already collected 1.35 million signatures.

In 2013, Cherepkov took part in the city elections from the Green Alliance party. In the election, he scored 18 percent of the vote and took second place after the current mayor of Unicorn Igor Pushkarev.
